The creators of Comedy Central’s “South Park” reached a breakthrough Monday in the tense negotiations over the streaming rights of the long-running satirical cartoon.

Paramount agreed to buy the global streaming rights for “South Park” to bring the show to the company’s digital service, Paramount+, for the first time in the U.S., according to three people close to the negotiations who were not authorized to comment.

The deal with Trey Parker and Matt Stone, through their Park County production company, values the global streaming rights at $300 million a year, according to two of the people close to the agreement, who could not discuss the matter publicly because the deal is not final.

The five-year deal means the show will fetch $1.5 billion for streaming alone.

The sum preserves the show’s status as one of the world’s most valuable TV franchises.

As part of the deal, Park County agreed to produce 10 episodes a year.

A new generation will discover the early seasons. Before the weekly headline related shows. Matt and Trey don't like 'em, but they are my favorites.

Not to hijak the thread, but the documentary made about those guys buying and renovating that restaurant is excellent.

The article is a bit confusing... Are Matt and Trey getting the 300m a year, because it says "values" at.

Reads as in that is what Paramount believes they will bring in, not what Matt and Treys are getting.

Either way, I guess the 40m over budget they were for the remodel of Casa Bonito is an afterthought at this point

It’s a pretty extensive library at this point and if they’re still going put out new content, it’s a pretty valuable IP.

This. They wouldn't be doing it if they were losing money on it.

These negotiations had delayed the release of the new episodes.

You mean when the show was well produced and funny before Trey and Matt became lazy sell out hacks?

Almost a million dollars a day? How does it generate that much revenue?

Still hard to find more details, but looks like it doesn't include merchandising...

Also, the 1.5 isn't that crazy based off this info I had no clue about

quote:

While the streaming pact is the notable headline-grabber, Parker and Stone are also renegotiating an overall deal with Paramount to continue producing new episodes for Comedy Central beyond their current agreement, which runs through 2027. Their previous pact — valued at $900 million — was struck in 2021 and funded those Paramount+ made-for-streaming specials as well as the main series.

Already had a deal for 900m and you'd think it was paying off for a company to go back and do something like this.
