Do you know anyone who has quit following LSU football due to NIL and transfer portal?

We see a lot of complaints about the way college football has changed not only the last decade but really since the 2019 season.

But in real every day life. Do you personally know anyone who has completely quit watching and following LSU football or is it merely just message board complaining but they’re still watching football?

I still follow the Tigers and probably always will but I have changed the passion. In the past in no way would I miss a game my schedule on Saturdays revolved around game time. the last few years i miss games and other things have taken over. I hate the recruiting talk because just like last year the kid will flip and bail as soon as a more lucrative offer comes along. not faulting the kid that is life changing money but it changes how much I care about the game. this reminds me too much of pro ball and free agency but without the rules or contracts

Hopefully one day there will be a salary cap of some kind and also getting some sort of rules with the transfer portal. They need to bring back the old rules to where they have to sit out a year. I still go to every home game and watch every game. It does get frustrating though.

Not anyone that really cared. I have friends that were always more nfl fans that are just completely unplugged from LSU but they still watch the games. By unplugged I mean they don’t know the roster well and don’t watch every second of every game. But no, I don’t know any die hard fans that quit being die hard.

OK now add your age and other life changes...getting married...having kids...buying a house etc that could have had a major impact on this

I still follow LSU football but hardly follow recruiting anymore. National signing day came and went and I had no idea. I no longer watch college football all day long. Watch LSU and then the TV goes off. Will check scores online the next day.

I used to religiously follow recruiting. I’d watch film on all of the recruits, pay for services like 247/On3, and watch every bit of content out there. Now I just check in after signing day.
I’ll watch most of the games that do not interfere with duck hunting or fishing trips. We’ve almost entirely converted to an LSU baseball family now and I don’t see us turning back.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And I share yours with respect to recruiting. But I don't see how the actual games themselves have changed because of NIL. Roster turnover has always been a big part of college football. The top players were, at best, staying 3 years before NIL. Not a ton of solid players were making it 4 years pre-NIL. If they had not played much during the first 2-3 seasons they were often out the door.

Just take a look at LSU's projected starters:

Nuss - 5th year senior (all with LSU)

Duraham (2nd year)/Jackson (3rd year) both LSU signees

Hilton (5th year) LSU signee. Anderson (transfer, but 3rd year at LSU).
Thomas (transfer, but 2nd year at LSU)

Chester (3rd year); Adams (3rd year); Mubenga (3rd year); Davis (2nd year)---all signed by LSU.

T. Green (2nd year) signed by LSU

Defense

Guillory, Breaux, McKinley, Reliford (all LSU signees)
Whit Weeks (3rd year), West Weeks (transfer, but 3rd year at LSU), Perkins (3rd year); Keys (2nd year)

Stamps (3rd year)

Are there transfers to fill in necessary gaps? Sure. But a significant portion of LSU's (expected) key players this year are guys who have been at LSU for multiple seasons...even if they didn't originally sign with LSU.

Maybe it's just me, but I have always cheered for the "UNIFORM", not the individual players. The individuals have always come for just a few years and were gone. The school/program/venue, etc is the constant. I'll support this year's team just as much as I supported the team 6 years ago, even though none of the guys from 6 years ago are on this roster. And I'll support the team the same 6 years from now even though no one from this roster will be on that team.

NIL and transfer portal

Don’t negatively affect LSU. No one leaves LSU for greener pastures…unless they’re told to by the coaches.

If we were a smaller school I’d hate it. Develop players only for them to leave…that would suck.

For the good SEC schools we only get better.

I've known dozens of folks who have gone this route. Most of them well before NIL. It is usually life in general that triggers this, not anything with the NIL, the portal, or any other changes people lament. Heck, I did it for a while a few decades ago. Now I am more hardcore than I ever have been.

Overall football, not really.

Recruiting, especially at the HS level, absolutely.

It’s not that hard to keep up with for football.

Basketball is a completely new team every year

I do think this revenue sharing will have a direct impact on attendance as fans are going to bear the brunt of funding college athletics in ticket costs

My passion has changed

SEC network was showing a game from last year and I didn't know if we won or lost without Google

Maybe. My tickets for football are actually cheaper this year compared to 2024 - I’m sure 2026 will be expensive assuming we get Clemson, Bama, Ole Miss, etc coming to Baton Rouge

Fall Saturdays used to be scheduled around LSU football. Now if something comes up I'll DVR the game and if we lose i usually don't even watch it. I barely pay attention to recruiting since the ones that actually sign could be gone the next year. I probably couldn't name all 22 starters anymore.

It's conflicting - I am all for the kids getting paid, but now it's not a kid who just going to class like I went to clas. I don't know in the day it was like hey they are really talented but also a student like I was. I know that has not been the case even when I was there late 90s but at least I could pretend.

May e bitter old man but I refuse to donate to NIL so some 18year old can be a millionaire.

Someone said it and I agree - I would watch all day Saturday as well as the Thursday night game. I didn't care if it was mid major or what if college football was on I was watching. Now I can't be bothered

Similar to most other posts.
I pay 0 attention to recruiting, I dont care of a kid "commits" because 90% chance he will send out a "respect my decision" tweet at some point. It all means nothing these days the word commitment.
I have no clue who LSU Signed in the portal or HS recruiting last year.

I will watch the games and cheer for whoever runs on the field wearing purple and gold but I will know may 5 of the players like Nuss and Weeks.
I dont get nearly as upset or excited on the outcome. I just casually watch. Yes I want LSU to win but if they lose a shoulder shrug and changing of the channel and moved on. Unlike my youth where it would ruin the entire week.

I live 1 hour from Clemson and I am not attending the game. Why? Because of just the hassle of it and to be honest the Joy of opening days games has been kind of stomped out over the last 5 years since we lose every single one of them. Not up for spending another wad of cash like Vegas last year to get disappointed yet again. I can do that for free on my couch.
