In a wide-ranging conversation with press on Friday, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed that, following the events of 2027’s “Avengers: Secret Wars,” the company will recast the super-powered mutants for its upcoming “X-Men” movie directed by Jake Schreier (“Thunderbolts*”).

quote:

In future films, however, X-Men characters who appeared in previous movies will be played by new actors, along with mutants making their big screen debut. The decision echoes changes in the composition of the Marvel comics following the 2015 “Secret Wars” storyline, which involved multiple timelines collapsing and re-converging, mixing up the characters of the main Marvel timeline in the process.

“We’re utilizing that [story] not just to round out the stories we’ve been telling post-‘Endgame,’ just as importantly — and you can look at the at the ‘Secret Wars’ comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future,” Feige said. “‘Endgame,’ literally, was about endings. ‘Secret Wars’ is about is about beginnings.”

But Feige was also careful not to characterize the changes as a “reboot”; instead, the executive said “Secret Wars” will serve as a “reset” for the MCU.

“Reboot is a scary word,” he said. “Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.” Later, he added, “‘X-Men’ is where that will happen next.”

“It’s a seven-year plan,” teases Feige, “I think it goes to 2032.”

“It’s on magnets, it can move around.”

While several Marvel projects post Avengers: Endgame have dovetailed between TV series and films, for Feige, it was important to have the Fantastic Four be contained in their own world sans any callbacks to the Avengers‘ blip or other verse characters.

“It’s a no homework required go-see-the movie. It’s literally not connected to anything that was made before,” says Feige, “It kicks off phase six.”

“There were a lot of left turns and surprises that happened over the last seven or eight years,” Feige continues, “A positive one was to finally have those characters back and the X-Men.”

quote:

Feige revealed on Friday that while there were four versions of Blade in the works, two of them period (one of them set in the 1930s), “we landed on modern day and that’s what we’re focusing on.”

On pausing Blade after the exit of two filmmakers, Yann Demange, exit and then assam Tariq’s departure, Feige says “We didn’t want to put a leather outfit on him and have him start killing vampires.”

“You can start and have a good script and make it a great script through production, but we didn’t feel confident we could do that on Blade,” he continues, “We didn’t want to do that to Mahershala and didn’t want to do that to us.”

In the wake of the success of his own vampire movie, Sinners, one reporter wondered whether Ryan Coogler would get to take a crack at directing Blade. Feige says there’s no plans, rather the director remains committed to Black Panther 3.

Will the MCU last that long? I have my doubts, unless they remove the girl power queer influences.

Yep, “be gay, do crime” is not a great mantra for a super hero universe.

They're still in a good place and I think we'll see it next weekend with F4. Presales are now trending for 130-140 OW with another week left to go. I won't be surprised if gets to as high as 150, domestic.

Thunderbolts was a good start if they stick the landing with the Fantastic Four they might start to win people back. Regardless the last two phases have felt disjointed and overall directionless expect show more multiverse stuff. The reliance on the Disney+ shows did not help either as it put a barrier on a large part of the GA. A reset with an established core and stop putting major plot points in the shows would certainly help

FF is almost a must win.

they just don’t have enough premier Heroes to act as tent poles.

Rumours swirling that Reed will be one of the main leads in Doomsday which makes sense considering Doom is the villain which means all the more that they really need to knock it out of the park here

Just stop over saturating the market. Just seems like since Endgame every time we turn around there’s a new Marvel coming to the theaters. Bring it back to like 2 films per year, actually market those films, and stop making people have to watch every Disney+ series to know what’s going on with the movies.

Iger said the same thing

I think they had a lot already in the works but they need to strip
back

the days of thinking an antman movie will be profitable with a 250 million dollar budget arenover

bullshite, @variety and @MarvelStudios. Your fans deserve better than PR spin and lies. We should talk about some of the things top crew said and did behind the scenes that lead to a culture that had black assistants coming into my Atlanta office near tears about a sexist and racist toxic abusive work environment that I reported to the studio in September of 2023 only for them to brush it under the rug and remove me and anyone who complained from the project. Or when Ali himself chastised studio leadership for trying to push a white-apologist script that’s shoehorned Dane Whitman’s great-grandfather as Blade’s happy white woke helper through production only to have black leads and crew speak out about the racism and problematic tropes.

But sure…over-expansion, Kevin ??

Do people really buy this bullshite?

Ryan Coogler and Ryan Reynolds made a better Blade movie in the time it took Marvel NOT to make one.

It’s not over-expansion. It’s bad leadership, bad racism, and general incompetence.

If she went up against Ri-Ri and killed her you may get Shuri the beginnings of a following.

You have decades of incredible XMen stories, and THIS is what you want to use? What a shame. This tells me they aren’t serious about doing any of it right.

Secret Wars is an already-planned Avengers film. This seems to confirm they'll be using that avengers movie to get the x-men into the MCU, not to tell an X-Men story.

He's just describing how they are formally introducing them into the Marvel universe.
