Allstate home and auto vs State Farm

I’m considering leaving Allstate that we’ve had for 20 plus years for State Farm which is 1k/ year cheaper in auto insurance and a little less for homeowners. Anyone have experience with State Farm? Do they pay their claims okay?

Had to sue them to get Ida damages paid.
Stuck with them because they won't write another policy if I leave them.

I’ve been told that they don’t go to appraisal easily, where Allstate does often.

Allstate has Sgt Major Blane.
I don’t know what else you need.

I have State Farm auto and Allstate home (because State Farm was not writing homeowners policies in la at the time). I have never had a problem with State Farm paying for car repairs.
However, when I had a hailstorm and needed a roof, Allstate denied that it was damaged even when the roofing company showed me pictures of the damage.

As a lawyer that sues all of them, Allstate is by far the worst, and will be the first to leave their insureds holding the bag.

Shocked the roofer with a vested interest claimed you had damage.
You get a public adjuster too?

i've told this story before. I was with state farm since 1980 when i bought my first house. The house had been insured with them for 2 years before i bought it. Over the years, i had 3 houses insured with them most of time, then it was down to two in about 2020.
I got notice in 2023 that they were cancelling both policies for excessive claims. Total claims over the life of the policies was about $7,000, and the last claim was from Gustav in 2008. Then i got a 2nd notice that it was due to old roofs. Finally, they send a 3rd notice that it was due to trees on the property. One house in Capital Heights and one in Old Goodwood. Of course there are trees, but there were trees since i bought the first one.
Even the agent said it was bullshite. Allstate has been a dream to work with, but I have filed no claims.

Here is my SF story. I was in wreck when I was 18, not living at home and was crossing a road on the downside of a hill, dude was speeding came over and T-Boned me. Ok, cops did not claim fault, as they normally do. Dude sued me for a lot, I had max insurance for some reason and he wanted it all. He went to a lawyer, who sent him to doc who sent him surgeon and then they claimed he was hurt for life etc etc. SF said, no...we are fighting this one, the trifecta was known to them and they drew the line in my case. I later join the military, they tried everything to get to me....its easy btw in the military to serve people, but for some reason they never did serve me. They tried to take my parents to court, I was paying and the judge laughed them out as I was not even living at home.
Fast forward to 5 years down the road, they serve me like in a movie and SF still stuck by me. They fought that dude for like 8 years and end up settling for what he would have gotten if he had not done the deal with the trifecta....I never saw a premium go up from this.
Fast forward 20 years, my wife had a minor fender bender and her insurance, progressive doubled her premiums. She moved to my SF plan and we both saw our premiums go down. This was only a year and half ago.
Maybe they don't pay out quickly...IDK, they paid me for my wreck back in the 1990s. I've been with them since. That's my pitch for SF. Like all insurance it's you pay and pay and hope they stand by you when you need them. For me, they have

I had a healthy tree crack a limb and fall on my roof. VERY minimal damage (only like 5 shingles needed replacement) but it was like half a pecan tree and the back half of my house was covered and it was hurricane season. I called my insurance first and they said removal was covered. Got tree company to come out asap and remove.
Long story short State Farm denied my claim. Had my lawyer write a letter. Then they paid.
Insurance companies are all slime but just different colors.

Allsnake was very difficult to move to appraisal. Hired my own adjuster, magically they moved to appraisal but not without first trying to tell me improper installation so $0. Then when they did pay they tried to withhold my deductible twice. Legal theft

Side note on homeowner's insurance. Let's say your house is insured for $300k. They will have in that policy replacement value up to 50% of the policy or $150K for your personal possessions. But you have to be able to prove it. They will only offer you about 10% of the policy value for living expenses if the house is uninhabitable. In my situation, I could go out today and replace everything, clothes, appliances, electronics and I might spend $75k max. I was able to get Allstate to lower the replacement value for personal belongings to 30% and raise the living expenses to 30% from 10% over 2 years.
Assume there was a tornado or hurricane and your house is gone. You are in the middle of widespread destruction. It will take more than a year t rebuild plus everyone will be looking for alternate living quarters. Just a thought.

Had 2 major claims Allstate with my son within a year. New driver, slid off in a ditch, totaled a brand new Honda civic. Paid me out fully with no problems.
Tried to replace the car and Honda dealerships wanted $4k over sticker during covid. Wound up getting an acura for same price.
Bout 8 months later a woman ran a stop sign and T bones the Acura. Her company accepts fault. We bring car to acura approved body shop who writes a tremendous estimate. I thought Allstate would fight. We didn't want the car back because it was a new model and parts were going to take a long time. Allstate accepted the high estimate and totaled the car, paid out everything. The woman had progressive and was under insured to hit a new Acura but Allstate took care of everything.
We do have the Allstate platinum coverage so I guess that may have helped.
That's all I got.

They pay for commercials not claims.
Never had state farm homeowners but had all my cars and teenage drivers with them. Sometimes I would check rates and not even USAA vould beat them. Car claims were paid timely and never a huge rate increase.
