Do you have to pay a speeding ticket that was taken by a camera in Louisiana?

You can’t pay a bill that never came in the mail.

You have to ticket the driver, not the vehicle.

Winnfield

quote:

(2) The device or camera is not within one half mile of a speed limit change of ten miles per hour or greater.

That camera is within a quarter mile of a drop from 45 to 35. It's not enforceable, they are hoping people from out of town will just pay the fine so they can collect.

Their sheriff or police chief one was also on record saying they will only issue tickets to people from out of town and send warnings to residents.

Nothing about that or most towns using it is on the up and up. They just want a few hundred people to pay the fine every month so they can add it to their books while they can before it's banned. If 200 people pay a $200 fine every month that's nearly half a million in additional revenue annually. That's all they care about and then claiming ignorance if called out on the legality of their camera and/or selective enforcement.

NOLA will boot you if you don’t pay it. BR no issues. Not sure about other areas.

quote:

New Orleans’ Chief Administrative Officer Gilbert Montaño told Fox 8 the city is limited in its ability to collect the ticket fees. He said the city relies on booting the offending vehicles when citations are not paid and sending the tickets to collections.

Portal to check for any outstanding NOLA tickets.

What’s the state law? We in MS don’t know because we got a Republican majority and banned those idiotic speed and red light cameras statewide.

I know the state of TN makes it a real pain for the camera company to collect therefore they don’t.

Every city/town ordinance is different. Most of them have no teeth. If you don't pay, nothing happens. As someone above referenced, NO can boot you. Here is Winnfield's ordinance Municode. They can't do anything other than send to collection agency.

I just paid one yesterday from Oakridge while on the way to Omaha. 36mph in a 25mph zone, big criminal here! I talked to an attorney about it and he advised that I pay it since there's apparently been a ton of litigation over this in Oakridge and they still have the cameras up because they're winning the cases. $154 won't break me but it still pissed me off.

Make them prove it was you driving. Otherwise dismissed.

That's why Houston doesn't have the red light cams anymore b/c they couldn't prove who was driving.

I received one in Eros a few months back. I scheduled the court hearing and received a call the day of the scheduled hearing. I told the caller I could not know if I was driving or not. He said he would drop the case if I told him I was not driving. That is the way it ended.

Also, there is a new law waiting on the governor's signature that does not allow the cameras outside of school zones.
