Like someone who could literally be at or near the top of their sport if only they were able to get their shite together and manage life? These three come to mind for me.
John Daly
JaMarcus Russell

I don’t know about this one, if he had been a cookie cutter golfer like all the ones we have today nobody probably ever heard of him.
I’d say he’s still a bigger draw today than the majority of active golfers that are out there right now. Golf needs dudes like him to help ratings.

Daly became known for getting fat and drinking beer at an age when most professional athletes are no longer professional athletes or in the spotlight, and continues to play. Not sure how he makes this list.

I feel like Mike Trout willfully staying in Anaheim is kinda just throwing in the towel. Imagine him in a better lineup with a team that competes.

Conor can’t be put in this category. He literally was the sport for 4-5 years and achieved some of the highest accolades of anyone ever. And still the most talked about fighter. He was never going to beat guys like Khabib or Islam just like nobody else has so he bounced. He accomplished everything possible.

David Thompson is in the Basketball HOF (like everyone else) but would could have been w/o booze, drugs and Studio 54.

Call me a Homer if you must but Cecil Collins was on another level

Zion by a mile. Guy has shown when on the court he’s among the best in the nba as a 20 year old.
And he’s just eating himself out of the league.
Most of the other guys listed never showed they really belong at the highest level.
Also maybe Dwight Gooden. He should have been a top 10 all time pitcher.

Not sure I'm following. Daly was known for this in his mid 20s.
To the OP's point, I don't think Daly belongs since he still won two majors. Unless the implication is that he had the talent to win 4 or 5 more.

I’ll say this, if he wasn’t an alcoholic with a mess of a personal life he wins more than two majors. His talent was elite. Some of the best hands around the green I’ve ever seen and no one ever talks about that part of his game

He absolutely did. Daly had a great touch around the greens.
