Bought a car in June - wondering when I have to get an inspection sticker (according to the law, not your personal feelings about government overreach). I live in EBR.

It's my understanding that as long as you have the temp plate, you don't need/can't get an inspection sticker.

I guess based on the dv's. I'm completely wrong.

If it’s a brand new car from the manufacturer then it’s supposed to come with one.

I’d just go get it now instead of waiting. It takes 15 mins if there’s no wait. It’s $20

I would wait until you get your registration and metal license plate.

Most new car dealerships that I know of issue BOTH an inspection sticker & 60 day temporary tag when purchasing a vehicle

The dealership is the one that is supposed to put it on at purchase.

Thanks, all - I do have a temp tag, and will go get the inspection once I actually have a plate.

Dealerships not required to put an inspection sticker on. You need to get asap or pay the ticket when pulled over.

I went 3 years without one when I bought my new vehicle. I eventually got one.

They usually do them at the dealership, but I recently purchased a new car for my kid and it was in another parish so they couldn't do the emissions test. I brought it to the place behind PhillyMe Up on Jefferson a few days later and they did one for me with a temp plate.

There's a whose brother works at the DMV. He has a stack of blank tags & will sell one for $15. Just ask around.

Been riding without one since I bought my car a couple of years ago. Got pulled over for no seatbelt and the state trooper just said "you need a sticker" and walked away.

I am white af tho so it was probably my privilege

My dealer said "we don't do that" when I asked why my new truck didn't have one. I waited until I got pulled over to go get one. (No ticket, just told me to go get one tomorrow) I made it about 10 months.

Most dealers have quit doing it. Not sure why, but I bought 2 cars last 2 years and neither big name dealership does it anymore.

Just depends on if you ever get caught.

I bought my vehicle in 22 and still haven't put a brake tag on.

But I also don't live in Baton Rouge where they actually spend tax dollars trying to catch people with expired brake tags.

Well, I would just go ahead and get the sticker. It will save you the stress of having to frick with an eventual ticket. Unless you don’t have the cash, why risk the hassle for a couple of weeks?
