The great trash can dilemma: forward facing or rear facing?

OK, so everyone on my street push-rolls their trash bin to the street curb with the andles to the back, and lid at the front.
So one neighbor all of a sudden is pulling his trash can to the curb with the lid facing away from the street. Handles nearest to the curb.
Can any OT professional sanitation engineers help advise if one direction or the other is better for the grabber garbage trucks?

At least where I live there is literally an arrow on the can lid so that even morons can figure out which way to point it.

Every time I’ve watched them pick the cans up they dump with the side facing the street angled down
Which means if the lid was facing the other way it would be flopping around and getting in the way of the falling garbage
Could be different in other places I guess

You need to place the can with the front of the lid facing the street

Thought most of the cans included instructions on which way to face.

How does one throw out an old trash can? Every week i place it on the curb and all they do is pop the lid off and leave it

The trucks for ours uses the big grabber arms so I don’t think it matters (for our service).

My recycling can has arrows pointing the handles to the street

It depends.
In Shreveport, the sanitation workers moved the can from the curb to the back of the truck. Therefore, it was better for them if I turned the can with its back to the road. That way it could be moved to the truck without them having to turn it around.
However, in Huntsville, the trucks use a big grabber to reach out, pick up the can, and dump it over the side. Because of this, it is better if I place the can with the front facing the road.

This exactly…I have recently retired and for the first time in my life, I have seen both the garbage man and the mailman.

My can says for the lid to face the street, not the handles.

Our guys will not empty the can if the lid is not facing the street.

If you have automated trucks that lift and dump the can with a hydraulic arm then his way won't work. If you have guys manually lifting and dumping them his way is probably better for the workers.

It doesn’t matter.
The hydraulic arm is gonna pick it up all the same and when it turns the can over, the top will still open and the trash will go in the the top of the truck.
Don’t over think this

This one should be very simple, handles to the curb side. Front of lid facing the street.
That's the requirement for the trash trucks

I place it which ever way inconveniences me the least. Handles closest to our house
