Could Oklahoma ever steal Josh Heupel away from Tennessee?

Hypothetically, let’s say Venables has another bad season and Tennessee has another decent season (9 or 10 wins)
is Oklahoma that desperate? For those who don’t remember, he played there and won a championship in 2000.
I for one don’t think anything is off the table. The sooners aren’t used to being embarrassed like this and Texas is having success so they are willing to do anything.

I’m not convinced OU is a better program going forward or that they have more cash than UTk.

What makes you think Oklahoma is not a better program than Tennessee?
Moneywise it might be close but resource wise, considering how close and tight knit Oklahoma is within Texas. I don’t think Tennessee has an edge.

Better access to recruits and a bigger SEC footing. Money and facilities are relatively equal.
I’m talking current state and going forward, not how they did in the 2000’s and 2010’s
Geographic distance to Dallas/NTX isn’t the same advantage it was even 10 years ago. NIL is now everything.

He left his previous job there on very poor terms. Nothing is impossible especially if it’s a new AD but it seems very unlikely

Tennessee produces far more instate talent than Oklahoma, and is merely a hop skip away from Georgia, the Carolinas, and the rest of the southeast.
Any school with money can now recruit well, and Tennessee has plenty of it

Heupel knows he's in a good spot and has a chip on his shoulder towards OU. Not going back, especially to a rebuild.

A new Athletic Director has no impact. This all revolves around Bob Stoops, who Heupel believed scapegoated him instead of firing his brother Mike after the 2014 season.

Oklahoma has like 10 sub-.500 seasons in 116 years of playing football. And they have a shitload of money too. It’s a way better job than tennessee, for whatever reason.

Don't think so. Heard he has some bitterness since being passed over a few years ago. Plus no state tax in Tennessee, can live on the lake, and better scenery and family life in Knoxville

You sure about that? Oklahoma has oil money. What does Tennessee have? Oak Ridge Boys, Ronnie Milsap, and knucklehead Haslam money? Sure, Knoxville is beautiful, but not buying better in state talent. Fat Phil for years recruited in Texas, Louisiana, California, and Florida.

The talent level in Tennessee high school football has increased exponentially over the past two decades. In the 90s, there were probably 7-10 power conference level players a year. Now that number is usually at least 25 a year. The population boom in the mid-state as well as spring practice finally being allowed are the biggest factors in the rise of talent.
