Philly trashmen strike: city’s largest union criticizing “scabs” who are stepping up
Posted on 7/7/25 at 9:07 pm
Posted on 7/7/25 at 9:07 pm
Background: Philadelphia households are not getting their trash picked up by municipal services due to an ongoing strike.
People are offering to transport garbage for a fee. The union got wind of this and is publically shaming/doxxing the folks offering the service

Unions are a disease. Protect the lazy and bad employees at the expense of the good ones

frick unions. Sounds like a great opportunity for someone to come up with an app like Uber trash or something and make a shite load of money.

Gotta love the arrogance of “we aren’t gonna pick up your trash” coupled with “but we don’t want anybody else to do it either though.”

The answer should then be to drop off the trash at the AFLCIO offices.
If they don’t want to pick it up and don’t want anyone else disposing of it, let em have it.

Whether or not you agree or disagree with unions, this is the outcome of economic problems.
Once the cost of everything goes up and the pay for jobs doesn’t increase, the workers paychecks only go so far.
While i agree that unions are an issue, i also see the side of it where the workers eventually have to say, it’s becoming impossible to pay bills on what we make.

I will be disappointed if this does not become the plot of an episode of It's Always Sunny.
Also, "The Philadelphia Trashmen" should be the mascot of all sports franchises in that city.

Rumor is that Joey Merlino is behind this strike, not sure how real that is

Didn’t Dennis and Mac solve this once before?

Im more surprised that the landfills are accepting the trash, than people taking advantage of the situation to make money. The American way.

Anybody with a truck and trailer could absolutely clean up like that. $10 a house. You could make thousands a day if you do it right.

I buy a pass for $30 to our transfer station and make dump runs every other week. Sometimes the trash piles up and I only have one can that is picked up weekly. We also have plenty of private trash haulers out here so don’t worry about unions.
