Taking the wife to Vegas for her birthday and need some help planning. She’s never been and has been wanting to go badly. Staying in Sept and going for long weekend (Th-Sun)

I’ve been there one time but it’s been years and I don’t really have a good feel on what to do for activities and where to stay, eat.

We were hoping to stay on the strip so we could see all the casinos.

Also we aren’t night club people so that’s not our thing, maybe some cool bars or speak easys.

Maybe shows? She likes Broadway shows so I was thinking she would maybe like a cool Vegas show.

As for budget, we are booking flights and hopefully some of the stay with points. Other budget.. hoping for around 2-3k?
We don’t gamble so that’s not going to be a big expense.

Really depends on how much you want to spend. I’ve stayed a bunch of places and I honestly prefer the cheaper hotels because they have reasonably priced (for Vegas) food options.

I’d probably recommend staying Center Strip if you want to explore hotels, maybe Paris or Planet Hollywood for mid-range priced hotels.

You can find all you are seeking. Just depends how high end you want to go on the hotels.

Well I’m paying for hotel & flights with points so I’m really trying to figure out all the other aspects of the trip.

Was looking at Paris because of the location and it looks nice enough and we can cover with points.

Again budgeting around 2-3k for food, drinks, entertainment etc. we don’t gamble so that’s doesn’t really eat much into it.

The Paris is in an excellent location and would be a good place to stay if cost is a major factor. Otherwise I would rather spend a little more and stay at other places nearby such as Caesar’s or the Venetian or Bellagio across the street.

Park MGM is nice. Stayed in June. No smoking inside the property and a few really good restaurants. There is definitely a more chill / lack of party vibe if you aren’t looking to party till 4am.

As for food, they have maybe the best casual dining setup on the strip with Eataly. Best Friend was also a really good and fun dinner.

Personally like the Palazzo. Great location and great restaurants. All suites. Should fit budget.

Stay at the Bellagio, its central to everything on the strip.

If you want a speak easy, walk next door to The Cosmo, they have 3 or 4 in there.

If you want to get wild and go to a club, go the other way and go to Omnia in Caesers if a good DJ is playing

And if you want a good show, Carrott Top is the best show I've seen there. A constant 45 min of laughs.

If a casino is not important to you I would consider staying at the Trump International. It’s not on the strip but close enough to parts of it. The Trump doesn’t have a casino so it is quiet downstairs. A casino hotel always has music blaring that’s hard to get away from. The rooms at Trump are very large, nice and reasonably priced. I don’t know about booking with points though. However if staying on the strip is important the Paris is centrally located.

I highly recommend staying at the Cosmo, but only if you book a Terrace room with fountain view. A lot of the photos you see of Vegas on social media & magazines are taken from a Cosmo balcony. The rooms are large (albeit getting dated) & you're smack in the middle of the strip. If you have Marriott points, they can be used here.

As far as shows-

If Bruno Mars is in town, go see him, he's one of the best live entertainers I've ever seen.

Absinthe is awesome (if you like raunchy).

Michael Jackson One at Mandalay

Mad Apple is a new(ish) show at NYNY, a variety of acts- comedians, acrobats, magicians. it's a lot of fun. It's a cirque du soliel show, very high quality production.

The Wynn.

Book a suite in their Tower Suites or at the very least a corner king room.

What points eco system are you in?

ETA: Not a big fan of Southwest but if you are flying out of MSY they have multiple direct flights daily each way. We fly out on the early (6am) flight and have always been able to check in to our room at the Wynn when we arrive around 9 or 10am pacific time. We also get a late check out and return on the direct flight home around 7pm. It feels like you get an extra day and a half out of our stay.

The Ski Lodge at the Cosmo is cool, just get there early because it does get busy.

1923 at Mandalay is nice and is less crowded; however, the Ice Bar is next door and the exit is right at the back corner of 1923 so you see people leaving, which takes away from the ambience IMO.

ETA: To echo others, Paris is a great hotel that is right in the middle of everything .

The Wynn and Encore are nice and high-end. Lots of good restaurants and shops. But it is at the north end of the strip, a long walk to where most of the activity is.

Using chase points to answer that question.

Can book through the portal but I know that’s not where you get the best value for the points.

Not sure if there’s a way to game the Chase system for the hotel better than just booking through the travel portal.

Anyone who’s done that and has a better solution please advise.

Yeah, only place I would walk would be the Venetian/Palazzo right next door or maybe resorts world.

Uber to center strip but if you are staying at the Wynn you don’t really need to leave except for a show.

Chase actually had a sale of some sort going right now, where they are changing their “program” (for lack of a better word) up some. You maybe able to get some good value with them on hotels.

If you can swing it, stay at the Wynn, make your wife happy.

ETA: what is your age range?

That can certainly make a difference on where to stay.

I'm staying at the Cosmo in August and booked through Chase portal

The rate wasn't too much difference and because it's on their "Edit" I get early check in, late check out, $100 food credit, free breakfast.

Went back and forth vs booking through the hotel directly, but it made more sense to use Chase here.

Spiegelworld is doing a new show next month called the party. It’s gonna be dinner and some of the acts like they use in their regular shows. It will prob be way more intimate and crowd participation because it’s only like 50 people

They also have a new show called disco show. If you want to dress up and act crazy in a 70’s themed dance party show it’s pretty decent.

Mad Apple is a great show. The stage row seats right against the stage is probably the best value in Vegas show wise

Absinthe if you don’t mind raunchy.

If you like magic shin lim is the best. Some of the cheaper shows around 4-5pm can be fun also.

If you want something more risqué dita von teese show is good.
