Gemini Summary:

quote:

Ryen Russillo

Overall Assessment: Believes the Pelicans are a "team of assets that I like that make no sense together" [01:02:29]. He doesn't think they will be good next year and notes they don't have their draft pick [01:02:36].

Key Assets: He highlighted Trey Murphy, stating, "My favorite asset of everybody they have is Troy Murphy at 4 for 112" [01:02:44], later correcting it to "Trey" [01:02:52]. He also mentioned Herb Jones ("Herb Jones two for 29" [01:02:52]) and other young talent like "Queen and Fierce and Hawkins and Missy, you know some good young talent" [01:03:07].

Challenges: Russillo pointed out the "weird Zion situation" [01:03:18], detailing his extensive injury history: "24 games, 61 games, zero games, 29 games, 70 games where he got hurt in the playin against the Lakers when he had 40 yeah and then 30 games last year" [01:05:55]. He questioned, "When is the Zion hey guys I'm laying the smackdown" [01:05:48]. He also mentioned Jordan Poole ("Jordan Pool for two years for reasons that remain unclear" [01:03:14]), and felt "the way they built their roster is going to be counterproductive because it's too many guys and none of them have really proven anything" [01:05:25]. He also brought up a "New Orleans stink that is it's hard to separate it from the situation because being in New Orleans with how dysfunctional that organization and city and ownership has been year after year after year" [01:06:27], citing a story about Atlanta's distrust regarding a pick [01:06:56].

quote:

Bill Simmons

Ranking: Simmons had the Pelicans as the third-worst roster situation in the West [01:02:21].

Comparison to Utah: When asked why New Orleans is worse than Utah, he emphasized Utah's numerous draft picks, listing several future first-round picks and swaps [01:03:57].

Player Value: He argued that New Orleans has "two Capkiller assets in in Murray coming off of his injury and then Jordan Pull who they willingly traded for for 66 million for two years" [01:05:10].

Player Potential: Simmons acknowledged that Trey Murphy is "ready to have an awesome year and be discussed in a real way" and Herb Jones is "ready to do all Herb Jones things on a on a good team" [01:05:31].

Zion's Impact: He compared Zion's situation to LaMelo Ball's, where the franchise is "held hostage" by a dynamic but often injured player [01:06:08]. He concluded that if Zion is healthy and performs well elsewhere, "so be it" [01:06:21].

Note: I think Bill and Ryen were mixed up by Gemini

*ETA: This is Gemini's reporting on the rankings

quote:

The teams in the Western Conference were discussed in the following order, based on their perceived "worst roster situations" for the next five years:

Phoenix Suns [56:20]

Sacramento Kings [59:01]

New Orleans Pelicans [01:02:21]

Utah Jazz [01:03:57]

Los Angeles Clippers [01:08:21]

Golden State Warriors [01:09:15]

Portland Trail Blazers [01:09:34]

Memphis Grizzlies [01:17:17]

Los Angeles Lakers [01:17:41]

The "Pellies" nickname is horrible and should never be used.

Both Simmons and CowTurd were traumatized by a transvestite in the French Quarter at some point the way they take such glee in crapping on NO every chance they get

Because future draft picks are wayyyy overhyped until they turn into a player.

I watched the whole segment and they were just talking off the cuff. I don't disagree with some of what they are saying. But they view everything through a Championship or nothing perspective. So they always want to tear everything down if you aren't a contender. I just don't agree with that. I don't want to tank this year. That's the only way losing that pick matters..

I swear people didn’t watch Poole play last year or even the Pelicans. People just see stats and make up their minds on it. Shitty reporting and don’t know why we post these trash takes

Also him saying how he value draft picks and we got 3 good rookies coming in. How are we the third worst? Dude is a joke.

I assure you that while Simmons may not have, his bff did and reported back accurately.

And RR has been on the Pellies' bandwagon for years.

Well RR had Utah at 3, but both had us 3/4

These guys are fans, with a LITTLE inside info. The West is stacked, and they said no way we are a top-5 in the East. Hoping that is where we move when two teams expand - Vegas and Seattle.

To be fair, I think Russillo had Utah third-worst not the Pels.

They actually both said much the same thing--they like a lot of the players on the team but don't think they "fit together."

Simmons also is just harsh about the organization. It's obvious he doesn't respect Benson, Dumars or Weaver and he doesn't seem that crazy about the city either. So, par for the course on him.

I actually hung out with Russillo a little at a Pels game last season and he seemed reasonable and knowledgeable. He wasn't that down on the Pels at that time (it was early in the season), but thought Zion was such a joker in the deck, it was hard to predict the team's future so long as he was the foundation. It turned out to be the game where Z got hurt, came back after the half, and then was out for a long stretch of games.

That would be so transformative an amazing for our franchise. No joke.

He's legit pimped the Pellies for a few seasons prior to this year.

I would love to hear the counter to this.

They DON'T fit together.

There's almost no shooting outside Trey and Poole.

No big who can shoot at PF or C. No PG who can consistently shoot. Jose is our best 3 point shooting PG.

We have some world class doofuses in Poole and Zion.

It's a very weird roster. The trade for Poole makes no sense imo.

Yes, he was better last year. Didn't make a damn bit of difference on the Wizards. I think he's best cast as he was in GS. A scorer on a veteran team.

With this cast of clowns, he will be wild.

I don't dislike all the players. I like Queen, Fears, Trey, Herb, Jose in a vaccum but they are bad fits.

He hates New Orleans. Almost as much as Geauxldicocks and Ghost of Brostaw.

It’s safe to assume this will be a bottom half in the west team this season. It’s just how bad will they be is the question.

If you listen, Simmons says good stuff about the pelicans when they deserve it. I’m not gonna list all the pelicans negatives, we all know them.

I suppose, he did say we wouldn't even be in the conversation of bottom 5 in the east. It just sucks that the west is always stacked and the east is always weak

Who can you say with confidence that we will be better than in the west?

And not that long ago we had a rookie class of Zion, jaxson, and NAW. The odds that we have "Three good rookies" coming in is almost zero, especially given how hit or miss the 7th and 13th pick are. And we're also not the only team with rookies.

Not trying to be a downer, but their outlook wasn't that far off base.
