Has there been any more news on when that schedule might be released? I found the thread below, but it's locked so I couldn't bump it. I haven't found any recent articles searching the net. Only two games are currently showing on that schedule.

Supposedly the SEC will vote by this December to either stay at 8 SEC games or go to 9 games a year. You need 9 schools to vote to go to 9. Sankey wants 9 but only has 5 schools firmly committed to go to 9. (LSU is one of the firm 5 to go to 9.) Supposedly Texass and OU are for 9 as well. But that only makes 7 votes. Sankey needs to get two more of the 14 schools to change their last vote to get to 9.

My prediction is we stay at 8.

After that is decided, then we get to figure out exactly how to schedule.

Note: my info comes from a former student of mine who has worked in the SEC Office for 8 years now.

I believe we will go to 9 bc that’s the only way the other conferences mainly the big 10 will agree to expand the playoffs.

What’s the pros/cons? What will be taken away? The 1 decent OOC game we play or 1 of the 3 cupcake games?

It pretty much comes down to the playoffs. The SEC is the best conference, or at least undoubtedly one of the two best, so they want as many teams in the playoffs as possible. Playing 9 conferences games versus 8 adds more loses for conference teams, thus reducing the playoff teams the conference may get in. The SEC will want more playoffs, or guaranteed number of teams in the playoffs before cannibalizing themselves and making their playoff chances more difficult.

I just hope we don’t have to give up the Alabama and Florida games. It really needs to be nine games.

Thanks for the information. I knew there was a decision to be made on 8 or 9 conference games, but I didn't know when they might decide and schedule. Have a friend trying to plan an event and avoid a game weekend. Typically, venues get reserved very early these days.

Only 2 dates are set, Clemson on September 5th and McNeese on September 12th, with no times listed. Also, the SEC may be deciding whether to shift to a 9-game schedule.

ETA: started commenting then got pulled away for work and finished, posted and saw someone else had already said what I said

The answer to this is for the other conferences to go to 8 games. The other 4 games can be major out of conference games or maybe 3, and one rent a win.

I’m for going to 9. I’m sick of everyone’s time being wasted with Western Kentucky like games late in the season.

Pretty sure the SEC has a rule stating everyone has to play another power 4 game OOC. So, unless that changes, one of the cupcakes will go.

What's the point of Bama game when we've lost 70-75% of recent games. I don't care about having a great opponent as much as I care about winning.

Bama owns the series all time by a wide margin. Doesn’t mean the series doesn’t matter. These are two of the biggest and craziest fan bases in the SEC. It will always do massive numbers. It must be played.

LSU SEC opponents by total meetings:
Ms State 117
Ole Miss 113
Bama 89
Florida 71
Arkansas 70
A&M 63
Auburn 58
Kentucky 57
Bonus: Tulane 98 (has not met since 09)

In fact, Florida has played LSU more than they’ve played Tennessee.

Who leads the series doesn’t really matter it’s about total meetings. The conference is built on tradition and one among many is LSU playing Bama in early November.

I agree. Doesn’t mean cupcakes go away. 2 cupcakes and 1 P4 will happen. They can still squeeze it in November.

I’m more in favor of cupcake, P4, SEC game then another cupcake to start the season.

I’m ok with going to 9 games if they completely rethink the whole sec championship game weekend.

(*Assuming they go to the 4 guaranteed model for playoffs.)

Need to crown the champ based off the regular season, and give them an extra week off. Then you have 2 “play in” games for the 3rd & 4th spots on CC weekend 3rd vs 6th and 4th vs 5th based on regular season finish. *Or have stipulations where if 3 teams are tied for the reg season crown, you still have tiebreakers for 1-2-3, but only have one play in game b/t 4th & 5th

hopefully since LSU wouldn't have to play Alabama , LSU can get a home Halloween sec game or OCC home game or LSU could do a home and home series with Ole Miss that wouldn't count in the conference standings.

based on 2024/2025 schedule

my predicted 2026 opponents

October 31 2026 vs Ole Miss
TBA 2027 @ Ole Miss

Texas A&M
Texas
Georgia
Auburn
Tennessee
Missouri
Kentucky
Mississippi

That better be Clemson’s Week 1 game. We aren’t getting a tune-up game before playing at their stadium so they better not be getting a tune-up game before coming to Tiger Stadium next year.
