Why are we having trouble recruiting a quarterback ,2 Heisman winners in a 5 year period.

And one this year in contention .

Does it really matter? Lost are the days where the Nuss's of the world are going to sit and wait their turn.

which came from where?
Recruiting QBs out of high school has become pretty pointless. Great if you can, but hardly the priority it once was.

Michigan just ponied up 10 million for the one we wanted really bad last year

Because in the transfer portal day and age, guys arent going to wait their turn. So if you arent planning on a guy to come in and start in year 2, why waste the money now. Just go recruit them again out of the portal after someone else wasted a year developing them

1. It's July. Remember last season where LSU had the #1 QB "locked up" in July?
2. QB recruiting is arguably less important than it's ever been. Often times power conf teams can find their starting QB in the transfer portal. Those two Heisman winners you mentioned...both transfers.
There aren't a ton of highly rated recruits who are willing to sit multiple years. Of the (247) top 10 HS QBs in the 2024 class (rising Sophomores), 4 have already transferred. Go back a year further (2023 class) and you see 7 of the top 10 are no longer at the school with whom they signed.

We put all of our eggs in the Bryce Underwood basket which costed us a chance at most of the top guys in 2025 and 2026. I think we’ll still get a high school guy this class but will definitely be shopping in the portal this offseason.

We could have a top QB committed until October and lose him to another program when they offer 10 mil. Unless something changes, I would expect to be picking up solid QBs from the portal for 3 mil and coaching them up.

4 of the last 6 heisman winning QBs were transfers

Because schools are stupidly throwing huge money at kids to buy their commitment.

Let me do a Haiku
Recruited Bowe late.
Underwood put us behind.
Oracle money.

Underwood hurt this cycle. We are in on top talent for the next year's recruits.
Both heisman guys were transfers, so there's that.

quote:strong possibility he doesn’t even play there for 3 years and hits the portal go look at the qb rankings every year since the portal open, kids hardly ever stay with there 1st school now. Pretty dumb to throw that much money on a hs kid who may or may not transition to the college game.

12 million and the jury is still out on him. He may very well be worth every penny but its insane to me to pay that much for someone who hasn't thrown a pass in college yet. Plenty of 5-star QB’s haven't panned out in college.

I get your point and generally agree, but we're looking at 5 or 6 of the best QBs in CFB have been committed to their programs and stayed throughout their careers.
I'm pretty certain these guys are all non-transfer QBs
Nuss
Sellers
Klubnik
Allar
Manning (TBD on greatness)
Leavitt

And he may very well turn out to be a bust.
I like getting our QBs from the portal.

I think everyone has answered the QB question pretty well already
I don’t get why we’re struggling with highly rated out of state guys at WR. Dudes should be beating down the door to come here and yet we’ve been getting burnt on guys not from LA
