Sage Sure Insurance? UPDATE page 3

Anyone in South LA use Sage Sure for homeowners and can tell me about it?
We’ve been with Dover Bay via State Farm for 3 years, ever since Southern Fidelity collapsed
Have paid absurd premiums for 3 years to Dover Bay, no claims, and are being told if we don’t essentially have a fortified roof with hurricane straps, they won’t renew us, if the house is over 20 years old. We must provide a form signed by a contractor. I’ve talked to two contractors who both have said it’s impossible to know this without ripping the roof off, because it’s very hard to tell from the attic, and neither will sign.
Our agent told us since they started this June 1, exactly 0 of her clients have successfully renewed, and she said she uses Sage sure for her house and suggested we talk to an agent. I’m waiting on a quote.
Really really do not want to deal with Citizens.

My independent agent put me with Sage Sure as the lowest cost homeowner policy following Ida.
They accepted my premiums regularly. No experience with claims handling.

Had Sage Sure for Ida, and still have them. No issues having my claims paid. Rates have gone up just like everyone else. Nothing bad to say about them in my limited experience.

Have had Sage Sure for 2 years. No claims.
Increase of $100 from 1st to 2nd policy.
No roof restrictions.
Very affordable compared to previous insurance company.

Sage Sure is an MGA. They write on different insurance papers and products. Just go through as best as possible what coverages they quote you with and what endorsement and coverage options are available.

Just self insure yourself and keep the replacement cost for your house in a money market fund or whatever
You’ll make money instead of losing money every month

I have kids entering 9th and 12th grades. I don’t want to move them.
As soon as my youngest graduates, out of here. Well, assuming I can sell this house…

All I know is they must be the lowest. My insurance broker put me with them on both my primary and rental property. But they do come out and do an exterior inspection before they will take you on. I had no issues because both roofs are less than 5 yrs old and one is fortified.

Can you explain what that means?

That’s fine. Roof is 4 yrs old.

Sage sure is a “good” company but not longterm for Louisiana. I’ve heard some good things but They have reputation as a company who’ll write business in areas that others won’t. If they get whacked by a bunch of storm losses, I think they’ll haul arse.
It’s the problem with Louisiana. We only have mid to lower tier companies willing to write business here. The quality carriers don’t want to deal with the horrible judicial environment and lack of fortified construction.

Who owns them? I recently had an agent run some quotes and Sage Sure and Safeco were pretty close to the same price. I went with Safeco based on his recommendations. If I remember right he recommended Safeco because they're owned by Liberty Mutual and have a lot of backing. I'm functionally retarded when it comes to understanding how insurance works so take that with a grain of salt.

I have SageSure but have not made any claims. My assistant also has them, and their garage caught on fire. $100k of damages paid without question.

They’re good unless you have a damaged roof

they are the managing underwriters for several different insurance products they have access to. They are not the actual insurance company/insurance paper you are purchasing. They handle the underwriting the quoting and policy issuances etc. Different companies they have, have various financial ratings as well. Some are HO3 products, some are dwelling 3 policies you can build upon.

Lots of people are jumping to sage these days because: 1. They are writing policies 2. The price is right. No idea on actual customer service. People just want coverage that isn’t crazy expensive… we’ll see how it unfolds when the next one hits.

Also contact Gulf State for a quote. I have what I consider a decent rate following the hell I was in with Lloyd’s of London after my insurer left the state a couple of years prior to Ida and was thereafter insured with Lloyd’s. Avoid Lloyd’s. Not only is my rate lower, I have better coverage and haven’t heard a peep from them. Going on year 3 next renewal so we will see how it plays out.

Managing
General
Agency
Sage Sure only manages the policies written through their site. They are not the insurers, I moved my house last month from LM ($6,700) to Occidental ($3600) through Sage Sure. LM is trying to pare down their exposure in Louisiana not just below I10. They were great for Laura and Delta but I can’t leave $ on the table.
