But..Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington has introduced amendment #2613 that would right this wrong by making RLA workers, including locomotive engineers, eligible for the tax exemptions on overtime pay. If you have family or friends that work in the railroad industry, here's a link to email your senator to request to make this change!

They've been gaming the system for decades.

Got a lot of sweetheart exemptions ages ago and kept
them.

ETA Not only the workers but the entire industry
Thier sweetheart deals go back to the mid 1800's

It's pretty common. Cops and firefighters generally don't either as they have defined benefit plans instead.

How about all income sources taxed the same?

This shite picking winners and losers is tiring.

Unless they rewrite the exempt/non-exempt rules, a lot of people will still be eligible for overtime.

Lots of retards think they are "taxed" more on overtime.

They don't understand it's employer or paycheck admin withholding more. Actual taxes are unaffected.

Worked for a railroad 10 years, they have a federal retirement benefit called Railroad Retirement, you need 120 months service to be vested, if you leave the railroad before 120 months of service the railroad retirement is rolled over to social security.

Only if it is 0%.

The act of stealing the product of another mans labor is slavery. And that includes the theft of peoples purchasing power with our debt based monetary system.

Income tax should be 0% and the IRS should be ended.

There are plenty of ways to tax people that doesn't make them slaves, and doesn't grant special rights to individuals like the income tax laws.

My best friend in HS got a job at the RR (due to his dad working there). He invited me over to watch him work for a few minutes.
4 pm..arrive at station. Watch TV, eat dinner, read a book, do your HS homework.
10 pm..go home.
Actual work? One train will pass by during the 6 hours. Write down on the log: 'Train 261 passed by at 7 pm'.

Railroad does not get sweetheart deals.

When I started on the railroad, we got 92 dollars a day and that was working 12 hours a day 7 days a week.

We had to pay tier 1 retirement and tier 2.

Tier one is normal retirement.

Tier 2 was when Ronald Reagan borrowed our retirement for the US government.

Which we had to pay off.

Today you hire on the railroad you will make about 600 a day, working 5 days a week.

You still have no personal life to speak of, because once you count in driving time, time to tie up your looking at 13 hours a day.

Now think about working 13 hours a day back in the 1990's, seven days a week.

The engine had no a/c, no fan, very little heat in the cold.

Yes railroaders had it made.

Have you read the text?

It's only relief on the pay above base so if you're on 1.5 rate the no tax pay is the .5 not the whole 1.5.

Leave to our representatives.

I know, my uncle was a railroad engineer. He was always away from home and had to work in the cold/heat/snow/rain.

They very well could be if that over time pay puts them in a higher tax bracket...
