I feel like Fears is getting overshadowed by the awful trade to get Queen.

The more I watch Fears the more I like him. He has maybe the best handle I’ve seen since Kyrie. I’m also not too worried about his 3pt%, as I dove more into the numbers he shot 20.5% on off the dribble 3s which is bad but he shot a pretty respectable 36% on catch and shoot 3s.

His ability to create separation with ease is fantastic, and he should be a great PnR guy. When paired with a lob threat like Missi, he should get some easy assists.

If I had to comp him to one player it would be Jamal Murray, they have very similar size, Murray was a better shooter at this point but Fears is a much better ball handler. If I were the coach I would really explore the Fears/Queen two man game similar to Murray/Jokic. Obviously they aren’t as good as those players but style-wise they’re similar

Now this is a thread I am in for. Fears is a star. I truly believe this. The NBA PG position is so odd, as they seem to drive the NBA (aka Haliburton vs SGA), yet they always slip in the draft (CP3, Lillard, Steph, two mentioned above, Brunson, etc etc etc). He’s only 18, imagine him at 23, much less 26 and after.

Special ball handling, special mentality. College percentages always have to be taken with a grain of salt. It’s such a small sample size. He shot 134 threes. Poole shot 622 last year as an example.

No way you watch him play and think he can’t shoot a basketball. Great basketball player, great gamer. We are super lucky that I think he’s good enough to overshadow everything else being discussed right now when all is said and done.

After the stupid early Pacers trade that blew up in Dumars face, I thought maybe we were in good shape when he took Fears. I think he could end up being the second or third best player in this draft.

Then he did the Queen trade. Such a roller coaster.

We gotta hope that outside shot develops

There’s still time, he’s young

But man, without that, he’s not gonna be a winning player

Queen and Fears compliment one another very well. It’s just the potential price that’s an issue. Separating the value/trade from the players, these two can be very good together. That’s also with Trey as well who fits on any team

Not a bad potential trio for the future if they pan out

That’s the thing, I loved the Fears pick, I loved going to get Queen. Literally throw top 5 protection on that pick and I’m all for it. Unprotected makes it a complete disaster

Yep. I love the players we got lol. I just wish that pick had protections on it.

I love both of the players we got in the first but I strongly believe in Fears. I was so thrilled when we selected him. He’s going to be a star.

He’s been compared to Kyrie by some.
But I dunno.

Kyrie was way more efficient as a scorer in college in the 11 games he played.

Kyries rookie season he shot 47/40/87. I just don’t think it’s a fair comparison. The John wall comparison is better.

Bold take, but he may turn out better than Harper.

Something about both Rutgers guys just didn’t sit well with me.

I’m very confident Bailey will either be a total bust or like kuzma or some empty stats loser.

Harper just doesn’t look special to me. He’s not really elite at anything.

The handle is way better than John Wall. He’s somewhere in between Wall and Kyrie. He measured bigger than Kyrie and same height as Wall but Wall had a much longer wingspan. Fears was also much younger than Kyrie and Wall.

Again I’m not worried about the shot. He shot 36% on catch and shoot 3s. He was just awful on pull up 3. He was good from midrange, floaters and FTs. He struggled at the rim but he was 18 in the best conference in college basketball.

His handle at his age is ridiculous. He can create separation and get anywhere on the court using it. He has the best handle I’ve seen since Kyrie and I don’t think it’s really close

His side to side movement, lateral footspeed, court navigation, and attack angles are similar to Kyrie. His handles aren't as dynamic as Kyrie but is more dynamic than Wall when he actually showcases it. His speed and ability to stop on a dime to freeze you and how he uses it to set up his mid range and change speed is similar to wall.

Yeah he should be great in the PnR, he had one of the highest number of PnR ball handler possessions as an 18 year old freshman in the SEC. He should be able to work seamlessly with either Missi or Queen

I’m more worried about his at the rim numbers than his 3 ball. He needs to be able to capitalize on his skill when he gets to the rim. But in general I really liked this pick. It’s the kind of a bold move that’s a good one. Take big swings with your picks.

Completely agree. I like Queen as a prospect. Not criticizing the player, but you can’t do unprotected picks unless it’s for a star or near all star player.

If fears can just calm down and learn not to take bad shots he will become a winning player.

I love the pick. I love his confidence and ball control.

Him and queen are real building blocks. I just will never understand why dumars didn't put a top 4 protection on the pick.

And why did the entire world know he would take Queen. Good front offices don't operate like that.

I like to think he took shots like that because his team needed him to score to succeed. He has the highest usage in the draft. A lot to ask for a 18 year old in the sec
