Reading the website for "LSU Baseball Camp", formerly Skip Bertman's Baseball Camp, it appears kids need to be dropped off and picked up each day.

In the early 90's they used to put us up in the Hilton then they finally moved us on campus by 1995 or so.

First year my roommate showed me that if you unplug the TV box in the Hilton and plugged it back in the porn channels were no longer blocked and somehow didn't charge to your room.

Anyway, I was looking into it for my boy and it appears there is no more overnight camp. That was part of the experience. Am I understanding that correctly?

I went to Skip's camp in the late 90s, like 98 or 99 or so and we went home every day. But we lived 20 minutes away so maybe they had some accommodations for the kids that came from further away, idk.

Too much risk and liability involved with that most likely.

Some of my favorite memories were form visiting basketball camps and staying overnight in the dorms(Not LSU tho)

If you are old enough to lead off the base, you're old enough to see a vagina.

We signed my nephew up for camp this summer and I saw overnight stay wasn’t an option either.

I went to Skips camps every summer in the late 90s as young as I could. My mom had to bring me and pick up up each day. But at some point I was old to stay over night and we stayed in the Radisson off of the interstate and the bussed us to the old box every morning. Hands down the best camp. It was actually the only summer camp I went to during the summer

I went early to mid-90's and we definitely stayed overnight. I can't remember if it was hotel or on campus.

Edit: Now i remember we stayed in Kirby Smith, this had to be 91-93 because I remember Armando Rios being on the team at that time

I went from 91-95. Same format, the Hilton just changed to the Radisson at some point. I think once you were going into high school you then stayed on campus.

I did other actual camps with archery and canoeing, but I agree, Baseball camp was the best camp I ever went to.

We'd eat at Ninfas or Ruth Chris the night I got picked up.

Stayed overnight when I used to go back in the day at one of the hotels off college. They bussed us to and from the old Box.

I’d imagine that has been ruined by lawyers, or the fear of lawyers.

You can thank Jeff Landry and his fellow lawyers for this. It does help to fund NIL though. Get Gordon.

Just show him porn on your phone and save the camp costs

No, the show case camps and travel ball explosion did in the over night camps. Kids used to fly and drive in from a good distance to do Skip's camp. Skip had that camp down to a science to make as much money as possible.

Two camp stories. One year LHSAA was doing the coaches clinic in the same hotel as camp and they put out free coke machines for the coaches. Of course the campers emptied them out. Bill Daly then took every kid who took a coke and ran them at the Box until about 11pm that night kids were puking everywhere.

This one has likely been exaggerated over the years. Bianco sent his group of campers to Skip's Grand Slam one night. The bus driver (a random high school coach) was not from BR and they missed the exit. Bianco doesn't answer the radio calls and the bus ends up in LaPlace. They eventually find Bianco passed out in his room with a case of beer.

I remember this as well. I think we basically unplugged the coax from the box and plugged it directly to the TV and we got all the paid channels. Unlimited Skinemax at night and I think we watched dumb and dumber on a continuous loop during the non porn hours. I can basically quote that entire movie to this day because of my time at Skip Bertmans LSU baseball Camp.

I can only imagine what the maids had to go through on the days after a few dozen 10-14 year old boys checked out

camp stories

One year we had a coach that drove the bus and the first evening on the way back to the Hilton one kid goes, "Hey coach, can you take us to Hooters?" (It was right there by the hotel)

The coach responds, "No." so it became a running joke each night on the way home. He ask us if we wanted to stop then tell us no just to mess with us.

On the last night, the subject comes up again and he says "No." but as we approach the turn he pulls into the Hooters parking lot and we go wild. Yelling, hanging out of the windows, rocking the bus. People inside were looking out the windows like...

He didn't stop, just cruised through the parking lot, but it was epic. A bunch 11 and 12 year olds going nuts over Hooters.

I went during this timeframe as well and stayed in the Hilton. I remember Beetle Bailey on hitting, Boots Garland on running (and talking about being in The Pistol), Chad Ogea stopped by one day, ragball in some agriculture coliseum, watching a solar eclipse one year, swimming, and of course taking the yearly picture with Skip.

I bet I've still got the group picture somewhere.

I coached there from about 1987-1990. Was a heck of a time. At night would we get together with some assistant LSU coaches, order pizza and listen to their stories. I wish I remembered them all.

One day Skip and Mrs. Sandy talked me into going pull some weeds with Mrs. Sandy at their house. The deal was 5 bucks, a Ginger Ale and swim in their pool. All was fine until I broke out with poison ivy the next day haha.

When I told Beetle Bailey I had to move on from coaching the camp due to college, he was like "why, your life can wait." Haha

Great memories
