Can they stop over complicating simple tasks like airport parking?

The take a ticket, pay on your way out method has worked fine for decades. Now it’s all on a stupid app that you have to QR code and then register your vehicle etc. Then they charge you a service fee for this shite that you didn’t want to deal with in the first place. We are going too far with tech.

This is what happens when you don't want to pay for employees and equipment that both always give you a headache (as an employer and a customer)

Have a plate scanner on the way in and on the way out. Charge you accordingly on the way out. What more could they possibly need?

Have you seen the its always sunny episode where Dennis has a mental break about how apps are ruining the world?

I'll one-up you. I thought i was saving time and hassle and uncertainty by reserving a long-term spot at the Greenville airport. Nope. The QR code they gave me didn't work. Had to call and talk to a person to get in and again to get out. Had to take a ticket, pay, get a refund. Super convenient.

Man IDK. They switched all of downtown BR's garages to this QR thing and I thought it would be annoying, but you literally use it once and it remembers you. So anytime you enter, it knows you're there. And when you exit, it sends you your receipt without you logging into anything or pressing anything.
I just did it for the first time on Tuesday, and it already knew my license plate before I typed it in. Then when I went to leave -- having no account I set up or anything -- it knew how long I was there by simply driving out and sent me my receipt. (It used my Apple Pay automatically to pay)

Same with parking in a godamn parking lot at an event. Price keeps going up but now I am required to download a fricking app and do all the work myself? frick that… it’s not that hard to pay a couple of attendants to take the fees/money as people enter.

Same with eateries now in the airport esp IAH. Scan QR code, then register with the app. which entails all the credit card info, etc. just to order something simple.
Common sense has gone out of the window. Glad I have United Club access.

I kind of like it. No equipment, less people to manage it, etc. Just park, pay, and forget about it.

We have something similar here in Louisville for places with meter parking. It's honestly made the process quicker, I don't have to fumble around for change for the meter, and if I'm sitting in a restaurant and if the time left on the meter gets close I can easily extend it from the app while sitting in the restaurant instead of running back out to the meter. And we eat out quite a bit on the weekends when it'll be busier in those areas, so the option for everything to already be loaded and ready to go is great.
I can see how it'd be annoying at a place like an airport though. But for regular meter parking, I like it.

They replaced employees with an app, which likely saved a ton, and then they want us to pay extra for using the damned app. That kind of thing drives me crazy.
It's equivalent to a grocery store charging extra for using self check.

I thought it was great when I was working in downtown NOLA for a few years and could just park, and pay on my walk into the office, then drive off with no delays.
Became a pain in the arse when I left that job and only go downtown a few times a year; mainly because I had to register the wife's car the 1st time, then my newer car a different time.
Only part that frustrates me is we have to do everything through the app, then they turn around and charge a 3% "convenience fee". Is it really a convenience if it is the ONLY way to do business?

I've yet to encounter this and I hope I never do. The Louisville and Cincinnati (really Covington, KY) airports have unmanned booths but are still ticketed. You just input your ticket into the machine when you leave and you pay there. It takes 20 seconds and is amazing.

I just pull up, it reads my toll tag, and I pull in. When I leave it charges me.

Back in the dark ages when you went to a doctor and needed some medication they would write it down on a slip of paper and you'd take it to a pharmacist and hand them the slip of paper and most of the time in about 15 minutes you paid for it and left, usually with some shite you didn't know you needed until you walked through the drug store of if you were a kid and it was your prescription maybe a new toy. It was SOOOOOO Complex. Now all you have to do is visit the doctor, tell them what pharmacy you want to go to, find the address for the doctor 'cause you know where it is but they ain't got a clue where walmart is apparently and they may or may not send the pharmacy the prescription electronicall. Chances are they won't do it or won't do it for a day or so and so you get to call them and ask them about it. Of course they don't check if the pharmacy has it in stock and if they don't the process starts all over again. Finally, once the pharmacy gets the prescription and they have the drug in stock they will fill it in 3-4 days and won't let you know when its ready to pick up so you have to call them several times. You then get to go to the pharmacy, probably wait in line longer than it took for them to fill the prescription, pay and leave with a bunch of shite you did not know you needed until you saw it walking the mile and a half back across the supercenter the pharmacy is in. It is sooooo much easier now than it used to be.....

I love reserving a spot at long term MSY, paying in advance, and just having to QR code in and out. Quicker and guaranteed parking. get over it boomer

I'm Dennis in that episode to a T.
Everything now requires an app or to register online, fill out all your personal info and credit card info.
QR code menus are the fricking worst. You're taking one of the last bastions of social interaction that people still do regularly and making people stick their head in their phones the moment they sit down.

Then......you need to get the app. by the time I get to my car the pharmacy has texted me that they're on it. another text when it's ready.

Flew out of MSY recently and did the online QR code thing, not an app, and it was pretty simple. It even shows you the availability to make sure you’re not trying for a full lot.
