Been a long time. I paid like 2k for the School of PE course. They detailed what to study. The test was easy and I passed on the first try. GL.

PE, the rope climb specifically

PE for sure. FE was like taking the ACT. Isn't the PE all on computer now? Seems like being able to search rather than flipping through ten books you carried in a suitcase would be easier

Did you take your PE as soon as you could, or did you wait a while? Probably vastly different level of difficulty in preparation if you wait 10-15 years.

I thought the PE exam was a joke (almost 30 years ago). I am pretty confident I could take it today and still do fine on it.

When I took the PE, you had to bring any reference material you needed to the test with you.
I showed up to the Pontchartrain Center with a handful of books, and almost everyone else taking the exam had suitcases filled with books. Got me a little nervous to say the least.
Ended up finishing the afternoon section with over an hour to spare and passed on my first attempt. I'm not particularly smart but am good at taking test.

All my engineers said the FE was much harder than the PE

This. I waited 10 years after graduation to take the FE exam. This was in 2018. Failed the first time passed the second. Went right into the PE exam the next year. I found the FE exam harder because I waited so long to take it. But getting back into study mode after 10 years was tough in general. Especially having a family, juggling life and studying.

If one passes the FE exam in Louisiana, are you eligible to take the PE exam?

The PE exam is harder than the FE. Not sure who would say the FE is more difficult.

I waited until like 5 years after college to take the FE because I never really needed it before that. Studied pretty hard but found it to be a breeze. The good part was once I passed that I had all the requirements needed to sit for pe. I can’t remember which study program I used but I basically just spent a few months studying four hours a day on the weekends and worked through all of the material. There were some people with wagons of materials going in to take that test. I didn’t have a wagon but felt good about the material I brought in. Then you had some guys with literally one book for reference laughing about how they don’t need all those materials. PE was definitely harder but still passed it first time. I think being able to take both tests back to back actually helped.

FE was a time management test IMO. Very easy for me.
PE you had to watch for all the little tricks they add to the problems. I passed first try, so it must not have been too bad. I did the Testmasters prep class, and that made it much easier IMO. Not sure I'd have passed as easily without all those refreshers on actually working problems
ETA Took the FE my junior year as soon as I was eligible and took the PE as soon as I could 4 years after graduating.

I found the PE harder. That was probably due to taking the FE (called the EIT back then) while I was still in study mode my last year of school.
A little bit of history….my boss didn’t have to take the PE exam. He was grandfathered and has worked his whole career as a PE without taking either exam!

PE was way harder. FE was a joke comparatively. Assuming you failed, I highly recommend taking a class. It’s the reason I passed the next time I took it.

It depends on which PE exam you take. The morning section (which was super easy if you took the test masters course) is the same for everyone but the afternoon section is usually what fails people. I heard the structures one was hardest. I took the transportation one that had surverying and traffic control stuff and passed first time. I would have taken the construction one but I felt like that one had a lot of gotcha questions because it wasn't very math intesive, mostly gant charts and estimating type stuff. The FE morning was also very easy, the afternoon was the same subjects just harder... calculus, statics, dynamics, etc. If you were good a those subjects, the FE was pretty easy, if you weren't, then the FE was hard. If you are proficient in whichever dicipline you chose to take the PE exam in, then it will be easy. If not, you will have a hard time.... common sense, I know.

FE (Mechanical) was far more difficult than the PE (Controls) IMO.

PE.
FE was easy.
For the PE I purchased an PE study guide from ASME and it helped a lot. I passed on the first try.
