Seems like this board would be accusing other coaches of malpractice if they let a kid throw 130 pitches.

I’m not taking a position, just going from experience on this board.

You are taking a position by bringing it up.

The 100 pitch thing is such a myth. Its player to player and a good coach knows his guys.

Was just coming to say this. I hated the thought of overworking him in that OK game for example. But in Omaha, you leave it all out on the field and ride the horse that got you there. This is a non-discussion imo

If he had never thrown over 100 pitches before, it might be an argument. But he has…this season.

Coach left him in to give him an opportunity to throw a complete game shutout in a CWS championship, which he did you absolute moron

Skenes threw 124 in a regional. He seems to be doing ok.

I’m fine with all that, I really am.

But any time a guy does similar to beat LSU, we get people clutching their pearls over his future career.

Really just pointing out the eternal hypocrisy of this fan base.

The real crime of the series was DVH bringing Gaekle back on 3 days rest after throwing 90 pitches. And then throwing him for 60 more. Thats far, far worse than letting an already hot arm throw 130 on full rest instead of 100

His velocity was still up, and was even getting higher in the last few innings.

He had not lost his command.

They were not getting to him in a meaningful way.

Its the last game of the season for him.

Pick any or all of those reasons and you have your answer. There was no reason to pull him, they had guys warming up. If his velo dropped or his command got wild they had guys ready. It saved our bullpen (not that it ended up mattering) and sent Kade out in amazing fashion.

Also there was zero chance Kade wasnt going to fight with everything he had to stay in there.

If they rode him all season and threw that many every outing, yes, it would be a problem. But he was dealing, there was little to no drop off, and it was his last outing as a Tiger. I’m going to side with Yeskie and Johnson here.

Except no that doesn’t really happen. What people may comment about is players repeatedly throwing high pitch counts on very short rest, like a Friday then a Sunday. Even then, people don’t complain about this sort of thing like they used to years ago. There’s so much more technology and analytics tracking player’s health.

Guys on 7 day college rotations can throw more in general than major leaguers on 5 day rotations. Ask them- they will tell you a seven day schedule is cake. A pitcher getting up to 130 2 or 3 times in a season is really no big deal if he feels loose and his velocity is still there.

Fine, agreed. Leave him in to finish the job.

But this same board many times condemns others when it goes against LSU

Didn’t really think about the pitch count, but I just found it interesting that they were know to have the deepest bullpen in the country and it felt like he threw like 4 pitchers the entire series. Just kept bringing them out there.
