One of our "doomsday planes" made a flight to Joint Base Andrews in Washington on Tuesday night.

More often than what you want to believe. It's a nothing burger. They fly these planes all the time to keep up with the maintenance

A lot, but not as often as people love using the phrase “nothing burger” and beginning sentences with “I mean”

If you don’t run machines the machines will break.

The most badass part of the plane is that supposedly it has the ability to launch ATA missiles.
Imagine piloting a 747 and making a fox call over the radio.

You’re just begging for an “Um, actually …” guy to show up in this thread.

The article says that last time it was used was on 9-11

There is a Navy E-6B Mercury (the Navy's "Doomsday Plane) at Chennault here in Lake Charles right now. Doesn't mean shite tho, they are in and out of here all the time for maintenance and upgrades. The Navy one is used for command of all our nuclear launch methods (subs, silos, bombers).

So you are saying since 9-11 they have never flown the airplane?
I have a question for ya - if you had a car sitting since 9-11 - would you drive that car across country if it sat for that many years?
They fly these four planes (we have 4 total) all the time to keep them running and keep their maintenance up to date. It’s a pretty standard procedure.
