Jay Johnson has been to Omaha in 4 of his 9 full seasons at Arizona and LSU (44% of those seasons)

He has been to the CWS finals in 3 of those 9 seasons (33%)

And he’s only 48 years old.

He’s one of the best active college coaches in America. Maybe the best.

Hard to judge. College baseball is weird in that there are a lot of really, really good coaches active.

Speaking of Arizona I miss Riley Cooper. His first appearance at LSU I was thinking this big boy won’t make it here, lol. He could pitch his arse off.

I can't come up with anyone actively better. Vitello and Schloss are the next tier but he has both beat

He’s 2/4 at lsu which is true to our powerhouse pace of 20 CWS appearances in the last 40 years since our first appearance.

He’s good enough to keep that pace getting us there at least every other year imo. Which is incredible

You have to give Johnson a mulligan for year 1. It takes a little time to adjust to LSU. Paul lost his job for a reason even if he didn’t leave the cupboard bare.

These baseball coaches live outside. That sun ages a man.

He doesn’t have any real gaps.

He knows how to evaluate talent.
He knows how to build a team to win
He know how to develop talent
He knows how to put kids in a position to be successful playing to their strengths.
He knows how to strategize a series
He knows how to strategize and manage a game.
And he can recruit.

What am I missing?

And I’d suggest he does those as well as anyone. But rarely can anyone be good at all of them.

I mean…. Damn.
