That was BS, it's the second time in as many days I have seen it. That rule needs to change.

ETA: batter HBP, barely moved at all, they ruled he induced the hit.

I agree, at least this batter moved his arm away from the ball coming in albeit slow. The previous call the fella leaned into it.

Ball was in the batters box. No way you should get rewarded for that

A laughably bad call.

Umps really want a no hitter apparently. Ball was in the batters box

My argument would be that he was going to get hit regardless, that movement only changed where he got hit, not if he would have.

IIRC, that exact same thing happened in one of our games recently and they ruled it a HBP. It was almost identical to the Murray State one

I think it’s BS. The batter’s elbow was still in the batter’s box. He basically turned and left his elbow in the balls path. The rule needs to specify leaning out of the batter’s box, over the plate.

Complete bullshite call.

Batter did not move his feet, and was moving backwards away from the pitch when it hit him.

And it was an OVERTURNED call, which make it even more outrageously awful

There's no defense of that call imo, on clue what they were looking at there

If you’re attempting potentially swing at the ball you’re not going to have time to move your elbow on that pitch. I absolutely hate this bullshite call

It has to be egregious to make that call and that wasn’t even close to that

He could’ve made more of an effort to get out of the way for sure. But his elbow moved toward his body. Such a bad call to make in that moment. How do the umps not realize the best thing to do right there is just let the call stand and not have a huge impact on the game in the bottom of the 9th?

It's crazy that it is a judgement call, and the umpires are not allowed to make the judgement as to whether or not the ball would have hit him

Blame the rule. The spirit is fine but it's self limiting in situations like this where even if leaning in it's obvious batter would be hit regardless.

He didn't turn his elbow into the ball. I don't know what the umps saw.
