Some jail sentences others probation and not allowed to coach youngsters for several years.

They were all involved in hanging a banner reading “Madrid hates Real” and an inflatable black effigy in a replica of the Brazilian’s number 20 T-shirt on a bridge before a Copa del Rey match against Atletico Madrid in January 2023.

quote:

Last month, five people were handed 12-month suspended prison sentences and fines for racially abusing the Real Madrid forward during a December 2022 match in a landmark first ruling in Spain to condemn racist insults in a football stadium as a hate crime.

That an inflatable black effigy could be found in Spain makes me wonder what the market is for such things in Europe?

St. Martin de Porres, also known as Martin de Porres Velázquez, was a Peruvian lay brother of the Dominican Order known for his charitable works and miracles. He was canonized as a saint by Pope John XXIII in 1962. His feast day is November 3rd.

Absolutely insane.

Racists suck, and should be booted out of events if they are being racist, but actual court proceedings and rulings are just crazy town.

Wonder how Spain rules on Muslims raping citizens.

In the UK they can get away with that due to their beliefs, but citizens are jailed for offensive memes.

Yay progressivism!

So if they did it with an inflatable white effigy with the number of white player is that ok or would they get same convictions and penalties?

Good. The amount of hate Vini gets for simply being black and very good is insane. It clearly crossed the line and bans aren't working.

Nb4 free speech, this ain't in America.

Settle down

quote:

They will not serve prison time, however, after all four signed a letter of apology to Vinicius, Real Madrid, La Liga and the Spanish football federation (RFEF).

Just like here, more “programmes” is the answer.

quote:

They will all be required to participate in an educational programme on equal treatment and non-discrimination for the prison sentences imposed to be suspended

Obviously, doesn't mean I can't have opinions on places without free speech, and just how appalling the lack of free speech is.

The banner didn’t get them in trouble, and they probably would have gotten away with adding the inflatable black doll with the jersey.

However, when they decided to hang the inflatable from the bridge is what crossed the line from insulting speech into hate crime territory in the eyes of Spanish prosecutors and the court.

So if they had used a white doll for the effigy would it have been ok? If they had hanged a white player in effigy is that ok?

Europe is lost

Calling your neighbor a count, can get you jail time in the UK. Stating facts about grooming gangs, can get you jailed for hate speech.
