Mrs. HB once asked me what I wanted for Father's Day. I said for her to mow and edge the yard, then check the water, scrub, and then backwash the pool. After that, fire up the grill, make hamburgers, potato salad and baked BBQ beans and a batch of margaritas.

She's never asked again.

I’ve never asked for anything. Wife told me today she plans to boil or steam some lobster tails Sunday. Sounded good to me.

Wife and I have been married for 16 years with 3 kids. I just want her to make a modest effort in the bedroom. One more year of hoping.

Just to spend some time w/ my son. He's 16 now and he's become more and more distant.

For my son to stop throwing fits of anger. He’s 42 and loses control of his senses. I want to fist fight him but he won’t square up in the yard with me.

A call and laughs from the squid. We're so old here now that we're going to redirect to how her/his life is taking off.

I got cigars and a matching pair of hats with my toddler, saying the baby's name and mine saying "Daddy." It's perfect.

This is the life. If it can be bearable weather with no other responsibilities, I’d take it.

But a lot of times, yard work and grilling out is complicated by coordinating activities for the kids or house projects that also need addressing or whatever else is on the never ending list of being an adult.

So if my wife can entertain the kids, not need me for anything, let me take care of some projects that require physical effort, and then hang out as a family with the grill, then that’s a nice Father’s Day present for me.

Besides, if there was some shite I wanted, I would just buy it. Birthday, Father’s Day, Christmas - it’s all kind of dumb for adults if you think about it.
