Had no idea Beausoleil (Baton Rouge) had fallen off

Took the wife for a birthday lunch there yesterday. Restaurant was mostly empty at 12:00.
Their menu has been greatly stripped down from what it used to be. Nothing really creative, but the high prices are still there. I swore they had a lunch menu at some point but not at the moment.
We started with the Blue Crab Claws (Calabrian chili butter, house herbs, black garlic aioli). At least I can say these were good. A solid start. We also shared a cup of french onion soup. Wife enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty average but I'm also not a french onion soup guy.
Wife got the Fruitti Di Mare Linguini (crawfish, crab, shrimp, lemon lobster crema). It was a sad bowl of pasta with a watery sauce and a few random pieces of seafood strewn about. Could have been something I easily made at home. Also pretty bland.
I originally ordered the salmon but was told a few minutes later they were out. That's fine. I ordered the Youruba Red Snapper (jollof rice, blistered tomato, sauteed spinach, suya, plantain chips). Honestly, this meal was pretty bad. Rice was bland, the plantain chips tasted like they were from a bag, and the fish was tough, fishy, and tasted like it had been in the freezer for a while. Best part was the spinach, which was actually delicious.
$146 after tip and I left pretty disappointed. I have loved coming to Beausoleil, and will keep an eye on them because apparently they hired a new chef, but this once very good restaurant has problems.

Lunch on a Thursday isn't what they're known for. Probably when they train the new employees.

They've been around long enough at this point. "Lunch at insert time" isn't an excuse when entrees are $35-$50.

Nathan, Lauren, etc..long gone now.
I too was disappointed the last time I took my mother there. Product doesn't match price.

That's maybe more of an excuse for FOH service, but if they are "training new employees" then that means that there is someone in there supervising them and allowing a crap product to be put out.

How weird I opened the board to this thread right after seeing this post with this caption.

That gives me some hpe because that wasn't on the menu and it's something that would interest me for sure.

I gave up on it a year or so because of the same reasons. And frankly I’m not really excited about much going on now cuisine wise. It just seems all are just mailing it in and throwing out incredible prices. I get the “everything costs more “ argument but if I am paying $35-$50 for a lunch entree it has to be good or you lost me as a customer.

At least they didn’t tell you “you got the last piece.”
I ate quite a few years ago at the Acme Oyster House in I think it was Sandestin. The one on the bay. We stopped for lunch since
before check in time and I ordered a dozen raw oysters. Waiter brings them to me and says “Whew…you’re in luck..this is the last dozen. We had a big party last night and they cleaned us out.”
My first thought “wow…lucky me.”
First went down just a bit outside as Bob Uecker would say. Second one it was known by me that it had definitely been in the bottom of some warm walk-in, mop closet or dumpster and I had made a grave mistake.
It took awhile to get to me which made it even worse. The suspense of when am I going to get violently ill was disconcerting. 18-24 hours later…there she blows. That was a bad beach trip.

We went back in the fall for my daughter’s sorority family weekend. It was terrible. Food was just not good, service was subpar and the bill was high as giraffe nuts. Hopefully if they have a new chef, at least the food part may improve.

Yeah the snapper I was served reminded me of a piece of fish I found in the freezer and cooked, knowing it would likely suck, but still safe to eat.
But that's me cooking at home. I expect so much more from a restaurant at a $39 price point.
I await to see what this new chef will do.

That’s the piece you put on a bun with tartar sauce and call it your own filet o fish. I have plenty of those in my freezer.

To be fair, I'm probably still aggravated that the Silver Spoon closed, but I'm not sure I've ever had a great meal at Beausoleil (and sometimes it's been plain bad). It's one of those restaurants that's just "off" and I don't really know how to explain it.
Now, I've been to two private parties there, and the food was phenomenal. I don't understand the disconnect. Not a place I want to go anymore when I have so many better options.
ETA...Now that I know there's a new chef, I may go back.

I used to go at least once, if not twice, a week. I think I’ve been once in the last three months. Same experience. I would get the bill and think “it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t this good.”

It had problems when the OT was in love with it too.
Trash blended raisins and water and reduced it claiming it to be a port wine reduction

Sous was really making that place hum, heard through the grapevine he moved a bit back. Makes sense.

We went for dinner a couple saturdays ago and they were almost completely empty. It was a late dinner 8pm but still. There may have been one other couple in there. Food was good but they no longer serve steak which was odd. They used to have one of the most slept on ribeyes in town

Was much better before it went “coastal”. The old menu was great.

Went there for an early dinner this week and the place was surprisingly empty. They had a decent crowd at the bigger bar, but the rest of the place was a ghost town.
They had service was fine and my fish was pretty good. Can’t tell you what the bill was, because my customer was buying. Partly the reason that I picked that place. Thought it was always a little over priced, so wanted to try it out again on somebody else’s dime. It was good, but nothing extraordinary to justify the price.

I went for brunch today. She ordered shrimp and grits. I ordered a lobster roll (came with fries). We split a dessert. We both had drinks.
$91 + tip.
The food, drinks, and service were all great.
