Found out today an old college buddy is illegal

Ran into a college friend over the weekend and we got on the topic of ICE. He is Hispanic but you can only tell by appearance.
Dude drops it on me that he’s been going back and forth to Atlanta to gain citizenship and was complaining how they keep moving his date back and it’s taking forever.
He’s been here since he was 8 years old. Guy has a blonde haired blue eyed wife and two kids. And just now wanting to gain citizenship. I just assumed this whole time he’s been a citizen.
I left that convo in complete disbelief.

Not being a citizen =\= being illegal. If he’s married to an American he ought to have a green card. No excuse not to.

I didn't get a driver's license when I turned 16.

That sucks.
If *they* don't take it seriously, I'm having a hard time finding sympathy or even understanding.
It stinks that he sounds like an otherwise typical, family oriented, working person... but he just didn't care to bother getting his duckies in a row.
