Everybody always acts like balkanization is some kind of terrible thing. But countries have gone their separate ways since the dawn of time. There's no reason we couldn't go our separate ways and still be perfectly rational as individual Western Nations. France and Germany manage to get along. Italy and Switzerland manage to get along etc etc.
The thing that made us one country no longer exists. That's not the end of the world. Let the left go its way and the right go its way. Shake hands and move forward

Well yes but I'm just saying it's not like we would have to be enemies. Countries with different value systems are friends all over the world. As long as their value systems are still somewhat compatible.

A return to federalism would be good enough. Bring the power back to the states and minimize fedgov's influence on American daily life. If you want to live like woke libs want you to live, live in CA, OR, WA, MN, etc.

The left and right are intermingled in our country.
It's not like they live on opposite sides of a river or mountain range.
There are blue enclaves within red states and even some red areas in blue states.
What you're speaking of is practically impossible.

Every nation in the history of the world that split was intermingled. You're correct that you probably couldn't simply divide along state lines. Hell you probably couldn't even divide simply as two groups. You probably end up with four or five.

Large territories with large populations are difficult to govern especially when one side intentionally sabotages the operations of said government. The US will eventually fracture, not a matter of if but when. History has shown this repeatedly and we are one of the oldest if not the oldest continuous governments on the planet. We are due for a major correction

Probably, but a new union of red states formed from dissolving of the US would need Constitutional guarantees to prevent the kinds of infiltration and indoctrination that have led us to the current situation, or we end up in the same place a few decades down the road.

In a world of self-interested individuals there always needs to be basic rules, structures and law enforcement.
We can debate over what those levels are, but anarcho anything doesn't work anywhere that people expect modern amenities or basic safety.

It's impossible because red states can't make their states inhospitable enough. Blue states have already made life as a conservative untenable. Gun rights, parental rights, celebration of vice, etc. Red states try to do that, but then they're invaded by blue transplants who with enough bodies, will eventually erode the safeguards against lunacy.
The reality is that red states are relatively happy to exist as-is. Progressive want to avail themselves of our communities and destroy them, before they go and leech off some other community. Consider breakaway cities - the left loses their mind.

If California leaves, WA and Oregon are almost assured to go with them, and this would frick the US pretty badly (especially in combination with how we're treating Canada and Mexico). Losing all port access to the Pacific would be costly (literally).
If California were to work with China, they would dominate tech and AI and the US would be left behind bigly.
