I didn't expect it to hit me this hard.

It's not that I'm worried about him.

I just realized my days of seeing him every day and being his father that he lives with are over.

I know kids leave the nest when they grow up. I just didn't expect to feel as sad as I am right now.

Just needed to get that off my chest.

It goes by so fricking fast.

When all the kids leave the nest, that’s when dads start cranking the hog more than ever.

Better than parents who have 25yo that still lives at home with no departure date in sight.

Don’t let it bother you.

Now he will get to call you and tell you about so really cool stuff he gets to do and send you pics of really interesting things you haven’t seen before.

You will be proud

Just be proud that he made the decision. We can use more good men in these times

Go to his BT graduation, you will be very proud when you see him in his Class A uniform.

Mine is only five. But he already feels like a teenager to me with how fast he’s gotten to five. That’s why almost any time he asks me to get down on the floor and play with him, I do it. Because I know there will come a time that he won’t want me to anymore. And I know that time will be here before I know it, and it’s gonna fricking crush me when it happens.

You never know what life has in store for him in the future. Never thought I'd be living close to one of my parents after leaving home over a decade ago but here I am. Best of luck to him

First, respect to your son and then to you as the burden a family carries for a service member is a heavy one.

I was a mess when my daughter left for her schooling in Arkansas. It sucks and I clearly wasn’t prepared for it. But, it does get better with time

Worried about an empty nest here. Just think how proud you'll been when he's a soldier.
