I’m glad that she won to pick us Americans up during this down time.

Coco Gauff became the first American in a decade to lift the trophy after the women’s singles final at Roland-Garros and she was asked what it means to represent the United States
quote:
"It means a lot. Obviously there’s a lot going on in our country right now," Gauff responded, via The Tennis Letter. "Just to be a representation of that and a representation of people that look like me in America, who maybe don’t feel as supported during this time period. Being that reflection of hope and light for those people."
quote:
"I remember after the election and everything, it felt like a down period a little bit. My mom told me during Riyadh, try to win the tournament just to give people something to smile for. That’s what I was thinking about today," Gauff said.
quote:
"Some people may feel some type of way about being patriotic and things like that, but I’m definitely patriotic. I’m proud to be American. I’m proud to represent Americans that look like me and people who kind of support the things that I support," Gauff added.
I’m glad that she won to pick us Americans up during this down time.

So not all Americans, just the ones who look like her?

During what time? A time where this isn’t really a thing? Never stop the victim mentality I guess. I guess I shouldn’t feel supported either.

She said she was proud to be an American. She is also proud to represent black Americans.
Are people not allowed to be proud of multiple things?

Are we not supporting black people in America?

People that look like her and believe in what she believes in. Sounds like the rest of us are SOL.

Incredible quote. Unhappy with the American election while in a country where women don't have rights like men and use slaves to build their infrastructure.

That and only the ones who support what she supports.

All the lads in the FO thread were rooting for this petulant bitch Coco Gauff (who hates them) over beautiful Aryna yesterday. So insane to me

Most blacks identify as black above all else, because that’s their leverage or excuse.
Normal people would be a husband, wife, mother, accountant, American, etc etc before getting to their skin color.

She did get to American before skin color so thats a weird example.

Odd how some blacks decide they only represent a select group of Americans which by its very utterance is what they complain about most.

That is what I would like to know. Who is not allowed to be proud?
