Should insurance cover medically induced suicide?

A coworker was recently in an accident and is paralyzed from his midsection down. He can no longer play golf, hunt, or travel how he enjoys. Essentially, his way of life is altered considerably, considering he can't even have sex anymore. Should insurance cover things like this?
I know Louisiana is a bible state, but at what point is the quality of life and life in general meaningless? Shouldn't he have an option if he can no longer do the things that make him happy or live everyday life? I know personally, I'd want to end it as I don't feel that is a way to really live. Living just to be alive is just sad.

He can do all those things. Just not the way he used to.
No. Insurance should not cover suicide.

Can't imagine how this could possibly be abused.

It should be covered for OT posters

Euthanasia should be legal.

No. Plenty of free ways to off yourself if you do so choose.

If I wanted to do that. I could find a way

Never
Lots of paralyzed dudes live good lives.

No but your friend can off himself if he wants almost free.
Car running in a closed garage.
Bullet
Hanging
OD on pain pills he’s probably on
Go on the street for fentanyl
Why should insurance pay for it and raise all our premiums?

This post just screams athiesm. You guys think life is meaningless no matter the state.

You’d think it would be cheaper than end of life care but I am sure the hospital will charge insurance 500k for a bullet

I consider myself religious and I believe in the sanctity of life. But after watching 2 loved ones suffer through dementia I agree with you.

I'm gonna say no but I'm more curious about what you think the incentive is for insurance companies. How would they make money without a customer giving it to them?

Altered =\= Not sustainable
If he had a terminal diagnosis like ALS, cancer, or Alzheimer’s then I’d be willing to argue that it should. But he can still live a full life and many do even with his disability.

I'm pretty sure we have a poster that lost his arms and legs...still posts and has things to live for. Some people are tough as nails.

There are plenty of things I used to enjoy that I can no longer do. Old age is not for sissies. Having said that, I am finding pleasure in the things I am still able to do. Suicide hurts the loved ones left behind and insurance should not have to pay

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing. But if a person is depressed and decide to cope with their issues by abusing alcohol, drugs, poor diet and other self-destructive behavior, insurance will cover the cost of all the healthcare related medical and psychological treatment in perpetuity.
