Man I guess I just don’t get Wes Anderson. First movie in a long time I almost walked out on. Count me as not a fan of his style

I've seen a lot of reviews that hate this movie

A few months ago I did a bit of a Wes Anderson rewatch. I forgot how good those early movies were. Rushmore, The Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenenbaums... by the time you get to The French Dispatch and Asteroid City the movies feel hollow. I still like him and appreciate his originality but I don't look forward to his movies anymore.

I’ve only seen Bottle Rocket and didn’t like it. I’ve seen parts of Asteroid City and Grand Budapest Hotel so I knew what I was getting myself into. I just can’t get into the characters or humor at all. It feels like a goofy play more than a movie

Watch Rushmore and The Royal Tennenbaums. Anderson earlier films are very good. I also enjoyed Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr Fox and Isle of Dogs. Haven't seen anything worthwhile lately from him.

I liked the film. Thought it was very funny. Could have just been the setting though. Saw it at the oldest outdoor theater in Athens. Packed house on a Monday night. The Athenians love their cinema!

The ads for this looked more like someone doing a Wes Anderson parody

Yeah I liked the style of that movie so I will have to check this one out as well although I'm sure it wont live up to that high bar.

Just hope it can at least be a 7-8/10

I was a huge WA guy early on and definitely grew tired, but The Grand Budapest Hotel was legit good b/c it actually had an engaging story.

But then he showed that was an accident or something.

My fandom peaked with The Royal Tennenbaums and at the time I had no idea that was going to become a caricature moving forward. It took me a long time to warm up to Life Aquatic. I will say that Fantasitc Mr. Fox is underrated.

Rushmore is still great.

I loved Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums and Moonrise Kingdom. The others were "ok" but not nearly as good IMO. Keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

Life Aquatic

His second best, imo. After Royal T's, of course.

Moonrise Kingdom

Recommended this one in the "coming of age movies" thread the other day (it was for a 6th grader)

Solid film

Isle of Dogs was good too.

I agree The French Dispatch was hit or miss with the vignettes.

I liked 2/4 of them but the Chalamet one fell a little flat.

i haven’t seen any since Parenthood hit me like a ton of brick and I dont think Asteroid City has gotten any cheaper to stream yet

Every single Wes Anderson movie I see just reassures me how pretentious he is

Just got out. When it started I was worried it would be another case of him doing a characterization of himself. I like his movies a lot, but couldn’t finish asteroid city, thought that one was too much concentrated Anderson with no payoff.

But this one was funny. Dry humor throughout. He obviously does his schtick, You can play bingo from the honest trailer thing above, and it check all the boxes but the Wilson brother, lol. but if you like that schtick, and I do, you’ll like this movie. Definitely the best since grand Budapest, IMO. My two teenagers laughed a lot, but they have an off senses of humor like their old man.
