You can tell we are exceptional on defense as our stats show BUT seems we have more wild pitches and pass balls than usual. May be wrong tho

Side effect of having a large portion of the pitching staff throwing upper 90's with control issues.

No, errors are on defensive plays.

No but passed balls can be responsible for unearned runs

sometimes wild pitches find the catcher's balls. And that's a painful error.

Call me old, but feel that is also a result of the one knee stance these catchers do now. I just don’t see how you can slide back and forth to block as good as you can from being crouched.

We had that beat into our heads at a young age.

Yep... while not an error that's put up on the board... the scorer treats a passed ball like it's an error on the catcher

A wild pitch is not treated as such as it's a pitcher's miscue

A passed ball doesn't not count as an error but can count as an unearned run.

Just for info's sake, Alex is doing very well these days. He is very successful in his job and is due to get married soon. This info is from his dad this past weekend.

If a passed ball was considered an error, than every pitch the catcher successfully caught would have to be considered a “chance”.

An everyday catcher would have a fielding percentage of .999

That’s why it has its own stat and factors into an unearned run.

I didn't realize how much better Millazzo was than the other guys we have had. I think Arrambide could be that good, maybe better but only time will tell.

Stats for last year's catchers in their entire time at LSU,

Millazo in 1334 chances had 9 passed balls. In 63 stolen base attempts, he threw out 31 baserunners

Neal in 502 chances had 10 passed balls. In 28 stolen base attempts, he threw out 9 baserunners

Travinski in 677 chances had 18 passed balls. In 40 stolen base attempts, he threw out 10 baserunners

Stats for last year's catchers just for last season.

Millazo in 395 chances had 1 passed balls. In 12 stolen base attempts, he threw out 6 baserunners

Neal in 267 chances had 6 passed balls. In 18 stolen base attempts, he threw out 6 baserunners

Travinski in 65 chances had 0 passed balls. In 8 stolen base attempts, he threw out 1 baserunner

Season stats for this years catchers.

Hernandez in 459 chances had 7 passed balls. In 25 stolen base attempts, he threw out 6 baserunners

Arrambide in 188 chances had 2 passed balls. In 8 stolen base attempts, he threw out 3 baserunners

Priester in 35 chances had 2 passed balls. He had 0 stolen base attempts.

I hope Cade becomes an all around good catcher, but as of right now (and he’s only a true freshman) being an exceptional defensive catcher like Milazzo was is a huge reach. He’s shown nothing to indicate that.
