The bottom of the 2nd last night was horrific.

Don’t know if I’ve seen an LSU team look worse in the field than that shitshow.
The walks and the hit batter.
Bear letting a grounder go foul instead of taking the easy out and letting their best hitter get another chance and he hits an RBI single.
Dickinson’s error throw to second.
A blooper drops between the second baseman and center fielder.
A couple more RBI singles.
It was goddamn nightmare inning.
5 runs on 3 hits and an error, 2 walks and a hit batter.
I thought I was gonna have a stroke.

It's actually more impressive they were able to recover mentally and win that game. That's the type of inning that looks like your team is done mentally and the game is over at that point. All the pressure was on them and they were folding like a stack of cards.
That makes Evans performance even more impressive. It's obvious this team lacks leadership but a freshman comes in and stabilizes the game and creates momentum. It can't be stressed enough how amazing his performance was when all the other pitchers were shitting the bed to give his a team a chance to regain momentum.
Without Evans, all it took for LR was a little more piling on and the game likely was over. Evans is a momentum killer and clearly a leader on the mound. He earned his spot last night moving forward. Definitely should be a starting from this point forward.

It was so bad ESPN pulled the game off of TV and no one could find it for a while
It was a lot like LSU’s horror show bottom of the 1st against Sam Houston State in 2013 where Nola was on the mound and LSU gave up 5 runs to go down 5-1 before coming back and winning.

Shows how much of a fricking dog Evans is. Came in such a shitty spot and shoved. All time performance.

A very similar inning caused them to fold on Sunday night. It was definitely a "oh no not this shite again" moment as a fan.

Same things were happening too, like crushing balls straight to fielders.

Rules or not, the fact that we were the away team two games in a row playing for a regional is fricking dumb.

Could not agree more - this did not contribute to the 2nd inning nightmare, but I have to pile on with this. These rules need to be changed or altered in some way. There is no way that the host team that is a top 8 (or even a top 16) seed be forced to be the visiting team the final 2 games of the regional. I get that the host gets the home crowd and they get their dugout, but shite man - this is just stupid. LSU was the home team twice and the visitors twice in their home regional. Stupid and makes no sense.

Yea it was pretty bad as far as innings go.. some of those things either weren’t LSU’s fault, or minor (mental) errors that were magnified by the previous game or because of the magnitude of the moment. Let’s dissect:
quote:
The walks and the hit batter.
Frustrating, I agree, but wouldn’t consider this ‘looking bad in the field’
quote:
Bear letting a grounder go foul instead of taking the easy out and letting their best hitter get another chance and he hits an RBI single.
Could have been the right play if the next pitch resulted in a strikeout. Would have kept the double play in order. Easy to look at now and critique but I’m willing to let that one slide - plus my cousin who was at the game said he heard someone from the LSU dugout yelling to let it go foul (they were right next to the play)
quote:
Dickinson’s error throw to second.
Definitely an error, but I can see how it happened.
quote:
A blooper drops between the second baseman and center fielder.
What would you have liked them to do to prevent this?

I thought I was gonna have a stroke.
Welcome to baseball

Exactly, there should be a benefit to being the host team. No way in the final game should the host team be the away team.

LSU wasn't asleep...at home. LR was euthenizing LSU. Big difference.

If that would have happened in the bottom 6th or later, I don’t think they would have recovered. That was a demoralizing inning.
Thankfully it was in the 2nd and they had time to get their shite together and make a comeback.

and then Jay Johnson came to the mound and had a relatively lengthy talk with the infield and everything was fixed. Pretty impressive of him in hindsight.

This right here. I understand the Sunday game but for all of the marbles you give it back to the team that earned the national seed.

Thought the team had checked out when that was all said and done. Seemed to last forever

That was a rough half hour
We had about 50 people check out apparently during that fiasco
