In 2023, California became the only state in the nation to not have an asset limit for elderly low income people to access Medicaid for nursing homes and home care.

In 49 states, an elderly person with low income does not qualify for these services if they have assets over 2k (typically). This is common sense, as it doesn’t make sense for the state to pay for the nursing care of an 85 year old person if they have assets they can liquidate.

What was happening was that Californians with plenty of assets were using Medicaid when they could have just sold their assets to pay for the services.

California is facing a high deficit and it’s due to their out of control Medicaid system. Newsom has finally woken up and smelled the coffee that the state is way too generous with this program.

quote:

Newsom agreed to raise the limit to $130,000 per person in 2022. Then in 2024, the limit was erased completely. Now Newsom wants to bring back the original limit of $2,000, an amount that was set in 1989.

This would reinstate complex rules about wealth and property that kept thousands of seniors and disabled people from qualifying for Medi-Cal. Under those rules, an individual’s first home and car are exempt, but other properties count toward the $2,000 limit. The balance of a 401k or retirement account are exempt, although payouts are considered income. Life insurance, cash on hand and savings accounts also count towards the limit. Even certain types of funeral plots count.

The test would apply only to people 65 and older as well as those with disabilities, which creates a financial cliff for those about to turn 65. Medicare, which many seniors use for health insurance, does not cover long-term care and requires some co-pays, so many people use Medi-Cal to supplement their Medicare benefits.

In a recent Assembly hearing, Newsom administration officials said when the limit was eliminated, far more people enrolled in Medi-Cal than anticipated, contributing to the state’s growing costs. Between 112,000 to 115,000 people enrolled compared to early estimates of just 40,000, said health care services director Michelle Baass.

Not quite. Newscum is trying to pull a con on the nation by pretending like he’s not a far left f*cking whackjob like he’s been for his entire scumbag life. This is how you know he’s running for president – when all of a sudden he becomes a moderate, common sense Republican.

Didn’t he recently bitch that they needed help paying for Medicaid costs? LMAO. That’s rich. They let all these CA people with assets get free nursing home/health care and then want the rest of the 49 States to pay for it? Wow

Would have been the one time I wished my mother lived in California.
She blew through over 100k in a nursing home the last year of her life.

They be better off opening a state run doctors office for people that work but aren't offered medical insurance so that they can see a PCD for stuff like High blood pressure, diabetes, etc... Charge the people based on their income. This would help put alot.

LMAO at you thinking 2k is a lot of money. Imagine being 85 years old and you have assets worth a whopping 2K....and to get medical treatment you are required to liquidate the last little bit of life saving (like 2k is a lot).

You are a nut job. Also, this isn't him waking up, and you know it you pos. He is trying to position himself as a moderate so he can run successfully for President. I know it, you know it (or should) and everyone knows it (should). Sadly, there are many that will fall for this, and this complete POS, should he win, will go right back to bankrupting the country like he did California.

Been a number of years now but we transferred all of my mom’s assets out of her name 5 years prior to her going into a nursing home. I think the look back period is 7 now but it can still be done.

Will 2K even cover one month in a nursing home?

So you are leeching off taxpayers even though your mother had assets. You are part of the problem!

But did you know this:

quote:

money laundering scheme that results in California obtaining more than $19 billion in federal money without any state contribution over the period from April 2023 through December 2026

Newsom passed a "tax" to insurance companies who then filed for medicare/caid match from the federal govt. When the state received this money they kept it to pay for adding illegals to the health system. He then refunded the "tax" to the insurance companies.

Part of the fraud DOGE found, stopped, and now they have a big hole in health care. So rather than take illegals off, lets go after the assets of Americans. What a twisted logic.

I wonder how many states were doing the same, then you have insurance companies and hospitals, and nursing homes. Then of course all the illegals, millions who somehow ended up on medicaid.

We dont need to throw grandma off the cliff we need to stop all the theft to the system and throw someone, anyone in jail. This RICO scam by Newsom should put he, administrators and the insurance companies in prison.

So you avoid opportunities like this through altruism? Her assets were meager, had already paid taxes on them and was enough to bury her without that falling on the kids. You must really be against the wealthy using non-revocable trusts to hide assets so heirs get more, huh?

I fully understand how the wealthy do it and it's legal. Legal doesn't make it "right" in an ethical sense. I guess you are OK with baby daddy and mommy not getting married so she can receive Sect 8, EBT, etc... while co-habiting and he working a full time good paying job. It's basically the same. Leeching is leeching, but you do you.

I'm for it but only if it doesn't touch your retirement account and house. Anything else (vacation property, business, etc.) is fair game if you're living off the government.

Between moving more center and his podcast with the rustic and manly set and props, it couldn't be more obvious that Newsom is gearing up for a presidential run in 2028.
