School Administrators

I really don’t understand why so many schools in the area I live in Swla have disciplinarians at their schools. It makes no sense to do this as tight as budgets are getting. What in the world do principal s and assistant principals do all day that they can’t take care of discipline. From what I have seen usually the SRO is involved in discipline when it something major now and they are paid by the sheriffs office. Also saw where the major metropolitan area of Allen Parish is hiring creating two assistant superintendents. Sounds like someone owes someone a payback. They have a total of 4,000 students if that. Maybe these superintendents just need Elon to come in and clean up the messes they have. Talk about wasteful spending. It’s not hard too see Why Johnny can’t read. Because the big dogs would rather feather their nest with dollar bills than to give every resource to the kids.

Idk about where you live but most of the time it’s a full time officer that does it for a few years then rotates another officer in. They’re not being hired explicitly for the school.

The problem in most school districts is not the administrators who are actually on the campus. Make a visit to your parish central office. You'll expect to see the superintendent's office and a bigger room for school board meetings. You will actually see over 100 employees with very little to do and a very large cafeteria for them to idle away their hours. The Caddo Parish cafe seats over 100. They knew someone who knew someone and got a new job with a new title.

This is what happens when you make it impossible to discipline problem students. In my day, problem students got a choice of corporal punishment or ISS, and if they continued to cause trouble they were suspended or sent to an alternative school.

In Missouri, SROs are, at least in large part, paid for by the school district.

Matters that don’t rise to the level of substantial SRO involvement (non criminal infractions or minor crimes where no charges are being filed) are routine at our high school and can easily take up the brunt of an assistant principal’s entire day. We are a rural high school, fairly poor, with diversity - not the best behaved in the world, but we certainly don’t have the problems of inner city hood schools. I’m not sure what type of area you are in to say what you say. I’m guessing a better socio-economic area without a lot of diversity?
Sorry for typos . My fat a is on the elliptical

There is NO discipline in public schools.
None.
NADA.
And usually none at home.

And likely a lot of similar family names and relatives.

This is the sad truth.
You could have one full-time admin to handle discipline for a school of 300-400 elementary students. Those problems increase with age.
Some of that is due to no one in the school being allowed to physically handle students, even when they’re melting down or assaulting other students or staff.

I believe most principals in Louisiana are also the school's AD. They coordinate transportation and lots of other things that go unnoticed when it's done properly. And I'd bet the paperwork associated with discipline or any other activity is onerous. That's just off the top of my head.
I agree with Zach, though. The central office is where the majority of bloat of middle management resides.

One thing I failed to mention was the SPS scores. Schools are judged by these and administrators at both levels are to chicken crap to do what is right and worry about what the score will be. You get points for different things that are done right test scores etc.and you lose points if you have to many suspensions and expulsions. So consequently things that use to be taken care of are now let go and then you have bigger problems. If the parents don’t know how to raise their kids and the schools are responsible then they should be able to discipline them. When the paddles were taken out then discipline really dropped off. So the superintendents don’t want bad sps scores. So they tell the principals don’t suspend too many students. This I heard from a former superintendent who made 120,000 dollars a year. So Cade Brumley could become the hero if he was to bring back corporal punishment, but just don’t see it he plays the game and is looking for something bigger. Only problem is Linda McMahon got that job. Governor Landry could definitely bring it back, but he probably won’t either everyone worried about lawsuits.

There are some that do a good job but they are scattered thin.
I don’t have an issue with most schools staff on location. Parish school board offices are where your biggest problems are and 2/3 of the employees there are a very slight step up from the DMV.

Completely agree that there is substantial waste in American school systems generally.
Some I think is due to mismanagement and some I think is due to something more like fraud, sadly.
In a parish as small as Allen, how is the school board able to just carve out or create two high-level positions like assistant superintendents?
Is this something on which the public has to vote or is it a decision made by the school board without public input?
What are these assistants’ salaries going to be?
Is the board doing away with multiple mid-level positions to make room for these two new ones?
Who will fill these two new positions?
Hearing these positions will be “created” makes it seem like there will be no posting of the positions to cast the widest net for the most talented applicants possible.
Just curious to know a little more about the details.
I have many questions . . .

These such questions almost always boil down to lawsuits. We live in a contiguous society that will do anything to cover its arse.

Our children are too important to have government schools.

You are welcome to come do my job one day to find out.

Unless you have been an administrator in a public school, you do not have a clue.
In Louisiana they have implemented a new teacher observation system that takes an ungodly amount of time to complete.
You also have all the programs/plans the state wants you to do.
You have administrative assistants or disciplinarians because the state loads principals and assistant principals with all the other junk.
Remember this, in public education in Louisiana EVERYTHING centers around school performance score. If someone tells you it doesn’t, they are full of crap.

Completing paperwork is not more valuable than teaching children.

Admin has no impact on these, yet they are paid the most money of school staff.

Look, I agree with you that school should be about the kids, but in Louisiana it’s not.
The state or local parishes require all the paperwork.
Principals implement the plans, or schemes shall I say, to improve SPS.
Public School in Louisiana is all about SPS.
