The actress' publicist Harlan Boll confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter and TMZ on Friday, May 30, citing a police report. Swit died in the early morning hours on Friday of natural causes at her New York City home.

PEOPLE has reached out to Boll for comment.

The actress was best known for playing Major Margaret J "Hot Lips" Houlihan, a head nurse in the Korean War, on the CBS series M*A*S*H from 1972 to 1983. The role earned her two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, four Golden Globe nominations and a TV Land Impact Award.

She was great in M*A*S*H

admittingly I don't think I've ever seen her in anything else.

Battle of the Network Stars and Hollywood Squares are the only other things I remember seeing her in.

This was the woman in Back To School. Apparently she WAS the original Margaret Houlihan in the MASH movie.

Someone has to be first. It came in a news email. Then, before I could copy and paste for those who are unable to click and read, I was interrupted by work, so thanks for "graciously" posting part of the article and some pics.

She was in a Burger King commercial holding a Whopper with a bite taken out of it. My dad said she was a liar. I asked why and he told me she was a vegetarian. 6 year old me asked what a vegetarian was and my dad replied with: “A vegetarian is a confused idiot.”
