Taylor Swift announced on Friday (May 30) she has regained ownership of her master recordings from Shamrock Capital, the private equity firm that purchased them from Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in late 2020. According to sources, Shamrock sold Swift’s catalog back to her for an amount relatively close to what they paid for it — which sources tell Billboard was around $360 million.
In a message on her website, Swift says: “All the times I was this close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through. I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now… I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs to me. All of my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life’s work.”

Then she goes home and listens to them...makes some new entries in her diary, as she hugs her pillow.
She gets out her high school yearbook and draws mustaches on all of the popular girls, especially the cheerleaders.
She looks up her first boyfriend on facebook and downvotes him.

Not a fan, but good for her.

Who cares. Must be nice to have 360 million to buy her old songs back

Good for her. Time for re-issues, re-masters, bonus tracks and everything else. Make a billion or two from that then sell the rights again.

Why are people acting like this is righting some wrong?

That formula seems to be working for her...to the tune of billions of dollars.
Not equating $$ with quality, but I could live with myself putting out mediocre music for that kind of scratch.

Not disagreeing with any of that, but when you make yourself a public figure, you're fair game.

Her first three albums are fantastic and she pretty much wrote them all. Couldn't give a shite about any after that once she started collaborating with Max Martin.

I don't see much hate.
People giving opinions and making jokes, that doesn't equal hate.

Buddy, she's got something there...
I've never seen/heard such an overrated yet successful (business wise) 'artist'.
But if folks are willing to hand her their money, I can't blame her for taking it.
I just wonder about the low bar some folks have for their musical tastes.

Its because this place is full of middle aged men. Not exactly Taylor's target demo.

$uicideboy$ put their rights up appraised at $300mm, so is TS vastly undervalued or $B fudging the books?

Are those the three albums she was employing that fake assed southern accent by chance???
Then she got tired of getting paid $75/hr and went pop where the REAL CASH is.
Also, I don't know how much she actually "wrote" any of her songs. I would guess she had PLENTY of help, and probably contributed a few ideas, and then the pros went ahead and pounded out the lyrics for her songs.
Lock her arse in a studio for a few hours BY HERSELF and see what she comes out with.
Any chance she emerges with a song of the year in 1984 like Prince did, doing just that???

What, another song about a beer on a Friday night isn't your idea of elite musical talent?
