Does anyone recall how bad the weather was that weekend? After beating Oklahoma on Friday, we lost to S. Alabama on Saturday, beat Long Beach State on Sunday in 11 innings and fought several rain delays to beat S. Alabama twice (14-4, 15-4), completing both games on Monday.

Yes I remember our first game Thursday night getting delayed only when they saw a lightning strike literally across the street

I was sitting in the old "left field 2" section and remember vs South Alabama Trey McClure diving into standing water on the warning track in left field

I remember the LBSU pitcher was huge and he threw about 150 pitches

Well, we're so bored, we're reading that thread.

Yep. My point was to try to alleviate the boredom.

I remember that regional very well. Stayed up late listening to the win over LB in a late night nail biter.

South Alabama had one pitcher they couldn’t solve. Nakamura I think was his name.

We beat the shite out of them the next two to advance

I was there. We’d drive over from mandeville. The Monday game people came without tickets so we took up ticket stubs from left field and passed them through the gate. The ramp was packed! Great times.

His ejection on Friday night against Vandy in 2001 where he turned his hat backwards to get closer to the ump is pretty legendary.

One of the most tense games I've ever seen at the Box. We were the visiting team and Patrick Coogan pitched 4 innings where if he gives up a run, the season is over.

I want to say that the first Monday game was kind of tense for awhile. I had to work, and kept going out to my truck to get the score. The radio didn’t work in the building down towards Laplace. Those big regionals were a slaughter house back then.
Edit: it was game 2 that was “close”
LSU was trailing 1-0 at the end of 3rd inning, and then posted 11 runs in the top of the 4th to blow it open.

Believe that 97 regional Oklahoma game was the last around the horn 5-4-3 triple play LSU has turned.

Yeah, that guy was named Patrojan (sp?). He was their closer, and was known for being pretty good, but wasn’t known for going such a long distance. He was effective for a frick ton of extra innings, from what I remember. It was a classic pitcher’s duel in the extras.

FINALLY, Patrojan ran out of steam and we cracked him for multiple runs. Exciting game indeed. I was in HS. I had an old clock radio that I was listening to the game on. I was in Bay St Louis, and to get the WWL feed, I found that stacking up 3 empty coke cans on top of the radio worked enough to pick up the game. lol. Good times!
