Man, I loved Kip. This is so sad. Best BR mayor there ever was.

Bike Cop Kip was probably his strongest and final form.

It was a rarity but it zapped criminals energy.

He was a good dude and good for BR. He really wanted to move the city forward, and he did. Unfortunately, those that came after him in the mayors office and council destroyed it all.

Only Democrat candidate that I can look back on now and say I was proud to have voted for. Damn.

To this day, me and the boys from his protective detail still refer to Budweiser red labels as Kip Holdens.

That man loved his Budweisers, white women, and Baton Rouge.

Rest in peace, sir.

Was he sick? Kip was definitely the lesser of many evils in BR’s astronomical decline.

Thank God BR had him at the helm instead of SWB during the Alton Sterling shooting.

I'll always respect how he didn't allow BR to get destroyed during the Sterling protests despite high racial tensions. "Space to protest"... ie an area that could get wasted, looted, and rioted out was not in his vocabulary.

One of the biggest surprises of my life was how great of a mayor he was for Baton Rouge.

Katrina happened during his first year so there were factors beyond his control, but even then then number of murders were no where close to SWB numbers.

And every year there was a spike in murders, it was as if the police department said "okay, what can we do better" because the following years it would drop significantly.

He allowed the Police Chief to do his job. He hired someone he trusted.. Not a puppet.

Did not always agree, but you always knew kip loved BR. Always approachable and easy to talk to.

RIP Mr. Mayor - Keep a beer cold for me :)
