Want to have a Lottery ? Ok… Fine. But show the balls as they are picked !!

The intrigue would draw a bigger tv audience to the ceremony …but the owners will not allow this to occur.
This prevents the owners from trying to build SuperTeams that could draw more people to basketball and bring more TV revenue to line their pockets.

Also, change up this whole system of thousands of different ping pong ball combinations.
Make the lottery drawing live and just have balls with team logos on them.

I am 100% convinced that the lottery is rigged. It's just a subtle tool for league manipulation of outcomes.

Do you know how the lottery works?
It's not balls with logos. They do number combinations. Its 5 or 6 numbers per pick. You need a number guide to decipher each selection. They provide all the witnesses with a listing. The NBA doesn't do the draft, it is performed by another group and audited by an accounting firm.
I really want to know, for all of the conspiracy theorists, what was the plan and why was it rigged for the Mavs?
If they were supposed to get the 1st pick for trading Doncic, why did they keep trying to win? They were a playin team and even won a game. If they make the playoffs, how do they get to make the selection?

I’m at the point now where I am assuming it’s rigged until they pick the numbers or balls live.
It should be live balls.

I don't think televising it would matter. I legit think the people in that room think they're seeing something real. But I'm convinced it's just a magic show. I don't like to be conspiracy theory guy, but the league is controlling those balls somehow.

Why would they leave something like this to chance is what i want people to think about.

Joe Dumars saw it right in front of him. Not sure how else you want them to improve it

They post the entire lottery process on YouTube after the pick order is announced

Why Powerball is aired in interest of transparency but the NBA refuses to air the draft lottery is beyond me, so I agree it'd be more fun to do the top 4 live even with the multiple numbered balls. Give the broadcast the combinations and draw the numbers one by one and have a box on screen that updates pick odds after each drawn number, graying out "eliminated" teams without remaining combinations for the pick. The table even autosorts in order of odds. With a little added intrigue with a longer gap between last few numbers you could have live betting. Once down to remaining 2-4 teams, cameras on team organized watch parties.

How many Powerball drawings have you ever watched?
Nobody does. You just check your numbers in the morning. It's not great TV and they can't make this into some great event.
No matter what people are going to be upset and think it's rigged. You can't console Wizard fans who felt entitled to a top selection, even if the odds are against it. They felt it was owed to them.
Once again, this is what the owners voted for (29-1). They want to minimize tanking and not reward the bad teams. The system worked.

People don't care about facts. They love conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories help people make sense of a world that doesn't make sense. So you end up with fools who are convinced that the NBA made a deal with Nico to get Luka to LA. Or you get someone like completely unqualified as the Secretary the United States Health and Human Services Department.
Trump is nothing more than an old guy spewing conspiracy theories that fools eat up with a spoon. Obama was born in Kenya! The Deep State runs everything! The 2020 election was rigged!

to me, the NBA lost the plot with the lottery a long time ago...
i understand they want to discourage tanking for a higher pick, but the exotic process they use now, with the number combos and whatnot, it's just unnecessary....
there has to be a better, more transparent and logical way to do this without it being shrouded in mystery to where not everyone thinks it's always rigged, b/c that's where we are now

This makes sense and there are a lot of ways to improve the system. Simmons had an idea that you can't have a top 3 pick two years in a row, or the top pick more than once every 5 years, something like that.
But a lottery is a gamble. The odds are never in your favor. Most people walk out of casinos feeling cheated. This is just on a greater scale..

quote:Maybe the fact that the outcome of those top 3 teams had a less than .02% chance of occurring or that the team that traded a star player to LA has coincidentally gotten the #1 pick that year 4 times even though they did not have the best odds? Maybe it is all happenstance, but it is not a good look.
People don't care about facts.

Because everyone betting against the house is 100% being cheated.

It is 14 numbers - 4 numbers are selected - those numbers correspond to a chart like powerball where teams have various number of 'tickets' based on ranking.
Total is 1000 different tickets. Pels had 125 tickets, Bottom 3 had 140 tickets each, Dallas had 18 tickets, San Antonio had 60, Philly had 105.
The pick is made by NBA employees. Four combinations of four are selected from the same type machine that does the powerball. One NBA employee reads the numbers to another nba employee who checks the computer for the corresponding team. Is it possible that guy reads 'whatever' and only a handful know about it? Perhaps. Everyone signs NDAs and is paid handsomely with all access to the NBA. Why would you snitch and give that up?
There is an accounting group, Ernst & Young who supervises but does not conduct the lottery. Once the teams are announced by the NBA employee, E&Y handles the envelopes you see on stage. Now, if you want a pay an accounting group to do whatever you want, they are your guys. SEC found them guilty in 2022 of multiple ethics violations, including cheating on certification exams and lying about it during investigation. They have a long history of covering up fraud for clients. They are held to a standard of client confidentiality and if rigged, they would never say - unless ordered by a judge, which 1) has never happened and 2) they have been found guilty of lying in testimony.
The NBA is legally entertainment. There are no actual laws which prevent scripting the outcome of games or the order of the draft. NBA is legally in the same category as WWE or reality tv - entertainment. They can legally do whatever they want and fans live in bliss.
The rule is - if it feels like its not right, chances are it is not right. The statistical chances of all these teams with 10-20 balls out of 1000 jumping every year is simply not possible.
