The team isn't winning anything this year and cutting Hill will save $10M next year (putting the Saints in the black for cap space). It'd suck to see him go but he could sign with a contender and we'd get back some much needed cap relief.

I don't pretend to know all the cap dynamics, but at his age with as serious an injury as he has, if it makes sense financially, yes.

Yes. He is older now, and has been piling up the injuries, and saves $10m if cut.

I LOVE Taysom, but this is definitely one of those obvious cases where it's time to move on.

Probably should have never re signed him in the first place. I love the guy though. Just can't stay healthy. We need to keep getting younger.

I’m mixed, his cap number is way too high for his age/injuries.

I’m only hesitant because of the lack of playmakers we have and the young QBs will need as much help as they can get.

It does make sense when looking at the contract on the surface; however, this numbers could adjust if there are any injury guarantees. I don't think there are as spotrac is usually good at calling those out.

But, if they are going to cut him, I would expect they will wait a few more weeks as a post 6/01 cut. You drop that $10M from this year's cap and next year's cap is still locked at $9.7M. This gives you some flexibility for FA signings or trades (not that I think they should) this season, and if not used you just roll the money into next year's cap anyway

I could honestly see Taysom just retiring as well. If he does, he deserves a parade.

I think this year is the last hurrah for Taysom and Cam. Let them have it. Last year, the offense looked so indescribably better when Taysom was in the lineup than without. He’s also 7-2 as a starting QB which is absurd. He’s the only veteran in the QB room and he can play TE, WR, RB, special teams, and FB when needed. Capable runner, passer, tackler, blocker, route-runner, ball catcher, bus driver, water boy, hype man, tax accountant, etc. Dude isn’t just a gadget guy, he’s the team’s utility infielder. When remotely healthy, he covers up a ton of deficiencies.

The question is how does his previous role with the Saints fit into Moore’s offense? Carmichael’s offense was a carryover of Payton’s, so his multi-position role existed in the playbook. I don’t know if that role fits into what Moore wants to do or if he’s good enough at any single position to warrant a roster spot. Add in recovery from a ligament injury, age, salary… it might be time to move on.

That being said, there’s no doubt in my mind that if Taysom wants to continue playing football he’s going to get himself into the shape to do so. And if he stays relatively healthy, which he hasn’t, he still showed athleticism, speed and power when on the field. If we assume he’d be able to catch on with Denver he’d be a weapon for them.

Make him QB1 and let’s ride. He can only make things more interesting than they are now. If not, cut him.

That’s kind of what I said. Likely no role in Moore’s offense. While I think he was terribly underutilized by Carmichael at least if her were still OC there is a role. If Carmichael were still OC I agree with you that he should be let go because use/production doesn’t justify salary.

Taysom is literally the perfect Tush Push QB in Moore’s system.
