Both are Freshman but Evans seems to have been more polished coming into the season.

If Schmidt finds control over his pitches his stuff is good enough to be friday guy for you. He will develop and be a stud if he stays patient.

Schmidt projected higher but projections don’t mean shite. Gotta prove it at the collegiate level. Evans has been really good. Schmidt has been hot and cold. He needs to gain about 20 lbs this offseason and learn how to compete against college hitters.

The mistake you are making is that the value of a young pitcher is his upside, not how good he is at the moment. A guy like Schmidt has great potential, which is why he was a top recruit. A guy like 2017 freshman Eric Walker was a low ranked recruit because he had little upside, but he could locate four pitches and was a very good college pitcher.

While I am high on Schmidt it is troubling that when he does have a little command he gets crushed.

He can be special but I had higher expectations.

Doesn't matter, neither should see the mound again in P&G.

I agree with you on Schmidt. He has no business playing college baseball. Anyone can do what he does.....not throw a strike.
Evans on the other hand is the next best we have after our game 1 and 2 starters. Two bad outings, but we don't have anyone better.
We just have to score more runs in game 3.

You don’t think Casan Evans should see the mound again?

This is what going full retard looks like.

I dont think Evans pitched like this in HS. I dont know though, but he said everything really ramped up when he decided to focus on pitching.

Baseball rankings are mostly projection. They’re sometimes looming at 18 year olds who won’t play in the pros sometimes for 4-5 years.

On separate episodes of Mike’d up Milan and Evans both talked Evans coming to campus as a 2 way player and it’s funny because evan’s tells it like “I took a few ABs against college arms and figured out quickly I was
going to be a pitcher” and Milan’s version of it was he took 1 AB against Evans and was like “that guy isn’t gonna be in the infield for long”

I see the big breaking ball that the scouts talked about, but wasn’t he supposed to be throwing his fastball in the upper 90’s? I was expecting his fastball to look like Evans’ with a huge curveball. Crazy that Evans is more polished with elite stuff but wasn’t nearly equal in status as a prospect.

It’s discouraging to see Schmidt struggling down the stretch - I’d really hoped that he would turn out to be a big piece of the pitching puzzle in the SEC Tournament and postseason.

That said, he’s certainly got the tools to turn it on if called on at some point, and I think he’ll be a good candidate to break out with more development next year.
