She and other young women had a very good point. The Citadel was a state school, with state funding going to it. Women weren’t allowed in the Corps.

The Citadel was given the option to go private and stay all male, and give up the state funding. They didn’t want to do it.

Maxine Hudson, the woman mentioned in the community note, took night and summer classes for a bit less than a decade. She wasn’t a member of the Corps.
