Going to Charleston May 14th-18th and looking for some reviews and/or ideas.

--Some of the places for dinner include SNOB, Husk and Tavern & Table. Any reviews on these places?

--Lunch includes Fleet Landing. What are some other good lunch spots?

--Breakfast/Brunch will be Millers All Day. What are some other good breakfast/brunch spots?

--We plan to do the Charleston City Market, Waterfront Park, King Street, Rainbow Row.

--Any reviews on Magnolia Platation and Gardens / Cypress Gardens and if it is worth it?

--We are staying in West Ashley. I have a car and willing to drive 30-45 minutes for meals or activities.

--All day Friday we will be in Charlotte for the PGA Championship.

Any ideas or places your really enjoyed are greatly appreciated.

I have been to SNOB and it is very good.

I also like FIG, Anson and the Peninsula Grill.

Kiawah Island is worth a visit. Lunch at the Ocean Course Clubhouse is great. Lunch/Dinner or just a drink at the Sanctuary are all good options too.

Any reviews on Magnolia Plantation and Gardens

Our favorite out of all of the major plantations in the area. Never been in May so I can't say what will be in bloom. The gardens are "romantic" meaning that the plants are allowed to just grow wild and get as big balls the environment allows. If you would prefer a more manicured garden head a little past Magnolia and go to Middleton. If you go to Magnolia take the nature train and nature boat rides.

If you have time I would suggest a stop at Drayton Hall (just downriver from Magnolia). It was built in the 1750s, survived the unpleasantness of the 1860s, and has not been modernized.

If you are staying in West Ashley give Bowen's Island Restaurant a try.

Toast was good for breakfast
Firefly distillery did a tour tasting that was pretty good. Their sweet tea bourbon is really good

If you are into history, the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon is really neat. Also, Patriot's Point is just across the Cooper river. Poogan's Porch in downtown Charleston is also a good place to grab a meal.

Lewis BBQ is very good. Much better than Rodney Scott. Fun atmosphere as well.

Drayton Hall is the best house to see outside the city. I’d skip the others. The 2 art museums downtown are decent, small and easy to tour. Poogan’s Porch restaurant is good. The Custom House museum and dungeon tour is very good.

Poe's Tavern on Sullivans. Also can spend an afternoon there. Its all themed for Edgar Allen Poe, who was stationed there

2nd Bowen's Island Restaurant

Edmund's Oast has a good vibes for cocktails/drinks

For Breweries..I'd suggest Revelry #1.

If you end up in Mt Pleasant...the Shem Creek area is nice. Grab drinks on the water at Red's Ice house but definitely eat at Page's Okra Grill.

The town of Beaufort is nearby. Interesting town with many antebellum mansions. To me, worth a visit. Several movies filmed there including The Big Chill.

SNOB is great, you can do better than Husk and Tavern & Table. Though I do strongly suggest checking out Shem Creek around happy hour or on a Saturday. We love Red's Icehouse (were just there yesterday after the beach ). If you have the time, do the sunset sail with the Palmetto Breeze, which leaves from right there.

Bodega is good, Heavy's if you like smash burgers, Magnolia's and 167 Raw for a more expensive lunch. Some of the bars have pretty good food as well, Dispensary, Prohibition, and Blind Tiger (definitely want to be in the beer garden) to name a few.

Keep going past Rainbow Row and walk The Battery and check out White Point Garden. Views and homes are awesome, though it's a bit blocked at White Point Garden because they're redoing the battery wall at the southern tip of the peninsula.

Lots more to do in the area outside of downtown though.

The plantations are pretty cool and very pretty, but can be a bit of a drive. Given where you're staying, if you have enough time, I'd recommend the Morris Island Lighthouse tour with Charleston Outdoor Adventures LINK. You can bring your own beer, and once you reach the island they give you about an hour to drink, explore, swim, walk around and collect shells, chat up the people who have beached their boats and are partying.

I'd also recommend doing a carriage tour your first day to get the lay of the land and history of the area which will make the rest of your trip more interesting. We like Old South.

I know OP is going to be in Charlotte Friday, but First Friday art walks are fun...all the galleries open their doors and serve free wine and sometimes food. A good crowd out and enjoying downtown.

Second Sunday on King St. is also fun. Big crowds though.

We love their upstairs deck bar. Cool views of the bridge and walkable to a bunch of places (Home Team, Lewis BBQ, Red Palm, etc).

Other breweries worth a visit:
- Edmund's Oast..best beers and a great vibe in the courtyard area by Rancho Lewis; the Edmund's Oast restaurant has a nice outdoor area and the best tap list in town
- Palmetto, which is a a little closer to downtown
- Holy City, large and a really pretty area, just a bit further out

The Revelry outdoor tap room on Folly is a great spot as well for a beer after the beach (get Chico Feo's for lunch!)

Great suggestion.

Also, if you like podcasts, check out the Charleston Time Machine. It is done by an archivist at the SC Historical Society. There are hundreds of episodes but I would suggest the ones on the Battery (episodes 37 & 38), hurricane impacts (3 & 4), and the city in the Revolution (61 - 64 among others).

Episodes are typically 30 minutes or less.

Thanks for the heads up on this. One of the things I love most about Charleston is the history of this area. I'll be going way down this rabbit hole.

I'm going to seek out some of the civil war episodes after getting through the first ones you noted.

Agree 100 percent.

Something I didn't realize until we were there the other week - the road that separates the Walmart and Publix on Folly Road is called Fort Johnson Road. Follow it until it dead ends and you are near (the actual fort is now in the harbor) the location of where the first shot was fired at Ft. Sumter. There are a couple of markers denoting the history.

I enjoyed the carriage ride tour of the historic area...

For breakfast, try the Palmetto Cafe inside The Charleston Place.

We walked to the Custom House to the Battery and through all the streets in the south of Broad, every day...rented bikes one day too. Loved seeing all the homes in that area.

Got massages in the Charleston Place spa one morning, which was nice.

We also did drinks/appetizers atop the Vendue Hotel...

Have fun...

Vendue is a good spot but we’re partial to the Market Pavilion rooftop, better views but a bit less of “a scene”.

And wandering or biking the streets South of Broad is great.

I just went during Mardi Gras for the first time with my wife. We stayed at the Andrew Pickney Inn, which was in a great location. It was walkable to most things that we did.

First day we grabbed lunch at Ruru's Tacos and Tequila then walked around doing all the sight seeing (City Market, Waterfront/Pineapple Fountain, Battery Row, King St and Broad Street)

Second day we grabbed a late brunch at Miller's All Day, hit some bars (Griffin, Vendue Rooftop, Market Pavilion Rooftop bar) and ate at Hank's Seafood for dinner.

Third day we went to Mt. Pleasant/Shem Creek and then Ubered over to Sullivan's Island and ate at Poe's Tavern. Later that night we ate at Hall's Chophouse.

The final day we ate lunch at Blind Tiger Pub before we left.
