Board members reached out to several executive search firms to work on a formal process for finding Tesla’s next chief executive, according to people familiar with the discussions.

The board narrowed its focus to a major search firm, according to the people familiar with the discussions. The current status of the succession planning couldn’t be determined. It is also unclear if Musk, himself a Tesla board member, was aware of the effort, or if his pledge to spend more time at Tesla has affected succession planning. Musk didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Last spring, he told that person that he no longer wanted to be CEO of Tesla, but that he was worried that no one could replace him atop the company

I actually remember a time when the WSJ was merely reasonable (and called far right for their trouble).

He owns the board, which is why this report was laughable to begin with. That board gave up on their fiduciary duties years ago...they sure as shite aren't going to start now.

Steve jobs wasn't a liar, actually had timelines, and wasn't involved in polarizing politics.

It's a slight against Steve's legacy to compare him to Elon.

Was that before or after they because the most valuable car company in the world? It’s awesome watching people lose all reasoning because Elon doesn’t want the government to waste billions yearly.
