Tell me about Dan Fitzgerald

His name is being mentioned for the Mississippi State head baseball coaching job. He’s doing a good job at Kansas, how did yall like him at LSU? Was he more known for recruiting or as a hitting coach?

He was only here one year. 2022. Very highly thought of as a recruiter from his Dallas Baptist days.

Word is his buyout is extremely high and he’s waiting to take the Arkansas job when Van Horn retires.

Well the biggest name being thrown around is Virginia HC Brian O’Connor his buyout is only $500k compared to $5mil plus for Wes and Mingione from UK

Mississippi state should reach out to Butch Thompson first. He is from Mississippi and was the pitching coach there. The only thing that would probably prevent him from going is Cohen is his current AD at Auburn. He was also my college teammate while at BSC, so I am a little biased. Butch would be a home run hire for Ms. State.

Butch is a solid HC but doesn’t seem very high on the early lists of hot boards. A more popular name is Duke HC Chris Pollard and ECU hc Cliff Godwin
A lot of State fans want an outside of the box HC that can really recruit and develop. That tended to be the downfall for Lemonis. He didn’t use the natty to boost recruiting and sucked in the portal.

Why would Wes leave a state with a very fertile baseball recruiting base and population and go to Arkansas? I mean Arkansas barely has 3M pop and GA has over 11M, that is just stupid.

He is from Arkansas and has an extensive coaching history in the state. Ready-made relationships, paired with a school that prioritizes baseball, has top-of-the-line facilities, and is backed by Walmart and Tyson chicken…it is without question the better baseball job

I would go one place and one place only - Southern miss.
You offer him 2 million a year for five years guaranteed and I promise you he will leave despite what everyone says about coaches stand for a lifetime there.
