Crash details

Partying at Stagecoach and his agent falls off the cart headed home and hits his head on the asphalt. Elway was the driver and police weren't called. Happened at a private club so if he was drunk sounds like we'll never know.

Update, the man has passed away

Update #2, ruled an accident

Awful situation. There was a situation like this in Vermilion parish a few years back where a wife was driving a golf cart and the husband fell off and hit his head and died. Just tragic.

I live in a neighborhood where they allow golf carts. People get blasted all the time and drive those like a bunch of damn idiots.

A couple of years ago we had a similar thing happen. Guy was driving drunk as hell, went around a roundabout, hit a curb, his wife got tossed out, hit her head and died.

They arrested him and I think he's still in prison for drunk driving and manslaughter. Really sad is that they have two kids and they all had to get shipped out to other family members. Really messed up situation.

I was playing in a golf tournament probably 10 years ago at Lakewood in New Orleans and watched something similar happen.

A kid, high schooler at the time, was in the group in front of me and forgot his club on the hole behind, so they got in the cart to go grab it real quick. On their way back to the next tee box the kid took a short cut through the grass instead of taking the cart path. Well his dad was standing on the back of the cart and wasn't expecting his son to turn when he did and the dad fell off the back of the cart and busted his head open on the cart path. Ended up dying later in the hospital.

It was an honest mistake, but I'm not sure how that kid ever got over that. To this day my parents still won't let anyone ride on the back of the golf cart.

Honestly, I am stunned the idiots here in Ocean Springs don't have more accidents. The city's downtown is designed so poorly with extremely narrow roads going through the outdoor bars that it encourages golf cart riding as opposed to driving (especially larger vehicles) and these idiots cause so much issue with traffic, not following traffic laws, riding the golf cart outside the allowed zones, etc.

Golf carts haven’t caught on in our neighborhood yet, but on a recent trip to Watercolor we had one and cruising around the lake and areas was one of the funnest parts for me. No one died though.

I'm curious, what legal trouble would he have been in if the cops were called and he was drunk? Would he get DUI + injury driving a golf cart on private property?

Don't post this on the OT. Those baws like to drink and drive because they have never done it and gotten into an accident. Like that is a reason or something.

Elway being an alcoholic has been an open secret since Dan Reeves was coaching him.

I’d call the damn sheriffs and tell them to come write DUI’s before a child gets killed. If you’re drunk and injure yourself that’s your own damn fault but damage property, hurt children/pets can’t happen

This happened in 2021 along with a few other incidents at the time. There has been a strong police presence since and they have cart inspection stations set up now every few months to see if carts are properly registered and have the required safety equipment. They've handed out several tickets and a few DUI's Still, our neighborhood is built around a club and people continue to be idiots.

I had a neighbor run into our mailbox a few weeks ago and he could barely function when I went out to see what happened. It was unreal.

Yeah. I mean I know you can’t drive a lawnmower drunk on roads in most states.

But what about a golf cart on the course?

I saw a lady a couple of weeks ago in the neighborhood we run in driving her golfcart in the road with a baby in her lap. One hand on the wheel, one hand holding the baby, not strapped in or secured in any way. At one point she was gazing to the right and strolled into the opposite oncoming lane where there is a stop sign intersecting the road where I routinely see people blow through the stop sign. Looked like an accident waiting to happen.

Already standard equipment on a lot of golf carts and required for the cart to be street legal.
