16 team single elimination

Top 4 get double bye to Thursday or Friday
5-8 start Wed
9-16 start Tuesday

So if we make Top 4, we play at most 3 games.

I think it should go back to 12 teams. There is no reason for all 16 teams to be there.

Thanks, was not aware they changed the format. Definitely helps our pitching. And if we can secure a top 4 SECT seed, that would pretty much lock us into a national seed. Playing with house money at that point.

Yea absolutely silly to have 16 teams at the tourny. Cut it down to 12

We should use the tourny to rest and be ready for the regional

Especially when one of the teams is about to go 0-30.

Not a fan of it but only thing redeemable about it is finishing top 4 and being able to treat the tournament like a weekend series.

Just do 16 for this year. Missouri deserves a shot at redemption. What a great story it would be if 0-30 Missouri can go on a run in the postseason.

3 games isn’t bad. Just a normal weekend where you throw your starters. You can actually treat the SECt like a normal weekend instead of having to do a bunch of pointless stuff the week before regionals.

This. So, there's a chance that a winless Missouri team could somehow get an at large regional bid if they could win the tourney. I know there's a less than 1% chance of that happening, but you should earn your way in to the tournament.

Missouri should simply, politely decline the trip. What a waste of money for them to show up to be beaten.

I like the single elimination aspect of it. No use to burn through a bunch of pitching for no appreciable gain.

I thought you had to be .500 in order to get a ncaa tourney bid or is that just as an at large?

Will the new format hurt attendance? It sure is a long way to travel for many teams' fans for one game. I think the traditional closer located schools (Bama, Auburn, State, Runts, and LSU) will continue to show in big numbers.

Mizzou hasn't won a single game.

South Carolina hasn't won the third game of a series in 7 tries.

Mississippi State has already fired their coach.

The conference is doing this because they think it will get them more teams into the NCAA Tournament and make it more money.

It's just another decision in a long line of them that reduce the fan experience in favor of potentially fleeting corporate dollars.

I don't hate it. Teams 13-15 may be doing some last minute jockeying for getting into the tournament. They have a big uphill battle, having to play 5 games. Top 4 get rewarded by not having to play more than 3. In a league that can get 13-14 teams in, I'm ok with more than 12 making the tournament.

When there was 12 teams, then a top tier team might have to play 4 or 5 games if they make it to the championship game, and possible wreck their pitching for the regional.
Last year #1 Tenn and #11 LSU both played 5 games. Had Milam not hit the walk off homer against USC, then USC would have played 6 games.

With this new format, your top 4 teams are just playing a normal 3 game weekend series at most, and your next 8 are mostly doing the same, with a few of them maybe playing 4.
This also gives an opportunity for plenty of teams to get some rest at the end of the season if they lose the first game.

It's a better setup for success for the conference as a whole going into regional play.

I hope so.

But in hoping so, I also hope they realize the single elimination is the problem and not the location.

Don't let these jacklegs from Texas con people into thinking the tournament should move away from Hoover.
